Are anyone's eggs hatching?! I had a broody hen that quit sitting during the week that I set my incubator up, so I candled her eggs and put some of the eggs in the incubator (which was a challenge because all of the eggs appeared to be at different stages, so I eventually had to take my egg...
Is the crack right on the end? Is it on the "big" end of the egg? Generally chicks will pip on a side, not right on the end. If the crack is right on the end, it may have been damaged.
My advice is to not give up on them..this has happened to me during the incubation time and has been fine, as long as it doesn't stay at the elevated temp for a long time. My incubator temp fluctuates between 98 and 101 and I don't give much worry to it. When you candle in a week or so you...
I just set 32 eggs today! I've been waiting for the weather to warm up so I don't have to keep the chicks inside the house for too long. This is the most that I have hatched at one time, so I'm pretty excited to see what my hatch rate will be this time. I usually do pretty well :)
I have a...
I agree...give them a chance...you never know. Give it a week to see if there is progress in the egg. I've had temps get too high and chicks that still hatch. Good luck!
Your egg turner gives off heat....so without it in there, it is lacking that heat source. You will have to adjust the temperature gradually...and remember that when your eggs get closer to hatching, they can produce quite a bit of their own heat...so temps might have to be adjusted even more...
Hmmmm....I'm thinking it's a boy...the tail feathers seem shiny...
However, when I was getting rid of some of my roos a while back, I had one I was on the fence about. I thought it was a boy, but it really looked like it could be a hen....I kept him and it ended up being a roo...
Glad to...
I generally hold off until day 7, then candle again on day 14, and then on day 18, right before I lock the incubator down. If there is no veining in eggs, I take those eggs out at day 14. Good luck!
As long as they have veins, they have started....they will fill the cavity as they get bigger. You don't turn them if a hen is sitting on them, the hen will do all of the work. I find that the less interference the better...let nature take it's course :)
I have had eggs hatch as late as day 25...so there is still hope yet! I hope that you have some success with this! It is always frustrating when a broody gives up (for whatever reason).
I put my incubator in my basement. My temps down there stay pretty consistent year round, so I don't have to worry about fiddling with the temp (when I had it upstairs one year I had too much of a temp fluctuation with our wood stove).
If I am saving eggs out to hatch I put them in an egg...
Good luck! I had a broody who "gave up" at day 20...luckily I had an incubator going, but it was a cold day and I didn't know how long she had been off of the eggs! I did end up getting some of the little guys or girls to hatch...I figured better to give it a try than to throw away 20 days of...
Number 1 and number 3 look great! You don't have to worry about them getting stuck on the sides, the chicken (I think this is right if I read it right) will do the work! Number 2 doesn't look like it is developing. As the duckling embryo grows and develops it will fill up the rest of the...
I usually do dry incubation...it does involve increasing the humidity at the end of the hatch, but I usually get about a 75% hatch rate with it. I found a post with info...I just searched Dry Incubation Method...
Good luck to both of you! I just completed a hatch with my 7th and 8th grade Enrichment kids at school. It was okay, but my hatch rate was horrible. I am thinking that the temps at night and on the weekends threw my incubator temps, because the chicks hatched late (day 23) and many didn't...
