I did see some of them poking their heads out of the pallets. There are only a few areas where they can do this. I have them in a temporary housing until I butcher the other birds in the other coop. I'm hopping its just a case of rubbing and not a disease.
They have only been outside for 5 days. I didn't notice anything before they went out. I think about 3 of them have this out of 30. 1 is missing a lot of feathers on her neck. They are protected by a 4' tall electric fence and pallets. The roof is covered. Im just not sure what this could...
Hello everyone. Took me a little while to get back on here. I purchased the chicks for a certified organic farm. Chickens are certified organic if they are feed organic feed from day 2. The chick starter feed is 27. The layer pellets are 23. I use green mountain feed. They are not a dual...
I want to have all heritage products on my farm. Eggs, meat, and produce. If they produce slower I'll just have more. I guess I would want a dual purpose. I was thinking of getting meat birds also. I could just have my egg layers and then have my meat birds. I don't know if there is one...
I'm ready to go big this year. I have had up to 20 birds so far, and I'm ready to go to 50 +. I'm just wondering which breed would be best. I've decided I want heritage breeds. I'm also going to raise them organically. I'm in the seacoast area of New Hampshire. I would like to have the...
Im not sure what it was, but it had to be small. I believe it sucked the blood out. I lost my BO. I only have 1 left of that breed. She was 5 months. I have a small hole in the door. Im in the seacoast of nh. What could it be? The body was just laying there with a few feathers around...
I have another BO that is not doing well. I had 2 a week ago that didnt move for a day or so. Now i have one that has lost control of one leg. She is red in the face. Thats how i can tell something is up. Other than that she is drinking. I havent seen her eat. Also no poo yet unless she...
Just started them on green mountain pellets. They love it. 10 week olds eat it just fine. Was using blue seal. I think $17 for 50 pounds. The green mountain was 22, so not a big deal.
While I was getting feed I talked to the owner. He told me that some cases its from young free ranging birds that eat too many things high in sugar. Their bellies are not use to this so they get upset. So eating slows, drinking slows, eating stops, drinking stops. I'm just thankful they...
So I put the two ladies in the basement for the night to stay warm and so I could keep an eye on them. The one that didn't have any movement is now able to keep her head up and can move her body some. The other one is getting sicker. It seems they are the only two that got sick.
