Hi Momma-hen. I have a gorgeous 3 year old Blue Ameraucana. I got him from Golden Sunrise Ranch in south Jersey, along with other hens and hatching eggs. I've been really happy with everything from there. Unfortunately I am looking to find wonderful homes for my chickens. I just don't have...
Hi Michelle,
I'm interested! I'll email you. I drove down last year on Labor Day weekend to buy the Ameraucanas from you.
Blu is doing great. He is the sweetest and most caring rooster! Look for my email.
Thanks,
Ruth
Hi Zar,
First, welcome! I think depending on the type of chickens you have, you may be in store for many more eggs! Out of my flock of 27, (2 are roosters, 3 are too young to lay), I just got a whopping 18 eggs yesterday!!!!
I am not supplementing light, and I'm in Connecticut so it's...
OMG!!! I just typed for 20 minutes and hit the wrong key and deleted everything!!! Here goes again.
I have a flock of 27, 22 are raised from day old chicks. They are 6 months old. The other 5 including a Blue Ameraucana rooster ("Blu") I bought two and a half months ago from Golden Sunset...
How old are they? How many have died? Have you called the vet? Can you bring one of the dead chickens for a necropsy (spelling?). UCONN by me does them I'm told, and it's not too expensive.
Sounds like you need to act fast. I'm hoping some of the veterans on this board can help diagnose this.
k625, when my ee was about that age, she went into hiding one day. The rest of the flock came back when dark and she didn't. Turned out she was hiding under the porch. She was find in the morning.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Southern, I'm so happy for you. I've read along with all your posts back when you were wondering when you'd see an egg. My flock hatched on 5/21, and a few of them had really red faces and combs for a few weeks and . . . NOTHING!! Now, they're molting, their faces are more pale, and not an...
I have a Delaware in my flock. I did not notice it to bite me as a chick, but I can say that at almost 20 weeks old, she is probably the meanest/bossiest bird in my group. She will come up to me and start pecking at any little thing that is on my clothing. She will peck pretty hard when...
Hey Purplechicken! I'm happy for you! And I'm waiting myself. I had my EE lay a pretty green small egg every day for almost a month. And she went broody so she stopped laying and sits in her nest all day. I pick her up and put her out to eat whenever I can. My other hens are almost 20 weeks...
My chickens don't like carrot peelings and zucchini. I tried giving them left over hamburgers today (thought it was a shame to waste them), and they turned their beaks up and waddled away! Never gave them any kind of meat before.
They LOVE watermelon, cantalope, rice, yogurt, rice krispies...
