I have Pilgrims...1 male and 4 females at the moment....mine have their fenced area that they call home but whenever I am outside, they are allowed to wander around the yard. When it's time for them to go back home, I just tell them that it's time "to go home" and they will stop what they are...
I don't believe it is a Pilgrim...I have some and even though the girls have "black feet & beaks" they aren't that dark, more like a dark grey where yours is almost black. Here is a picture of Bonnie with a female (dark beak) and male (pinkish beak) from last year. I hope it doesn't come...
Hi...
Mine are Clyde (he fits this very well right now, lol), Bonnie, BJ (Bonnie Jr.) and Wheezie. They are Pilgrims so I now who is what, lol. I had another little one last year that I named Gidgy because she was very small, but she died at a month old :(
Love all the names! It always...
Thanks!
I went to the chicken side of BYC and after reading some posts there, it seems like the majority over there prefer be-heading....they say it is the quickest way.
I have time and I don't even know yet if I will have to do this, just trying to do my research beforehand
Thanks...
Thanks for the replies.
If it were up to me, I would keep all the geese I can but the agreement with hubby is that I can keep the 4 that I presently have. So, when they start to sit, I will be posting geese for sale locally and contact the feed store where I sold them last year. I am just...
The act itself. In case I end up having some that I need to "dispatch" I am just wondering what is the easiest for us and also the most humane. I have seen my Grandmother "dispatch" chickens years ago....
Just looking for some ideas, just in case.
My husband would like to know how everyone culls their geese....he is trying to be prepared, even though he won't be the one doing it, my son will :) Hubby is as soft-hearted about them as I am.
Thanks!
Joanne
PS My goose, Bonnie, has made her nest and has been in it most of the morning...
I am so sorry.
I know first hand how hard it is when our four legged family members leave us. Also our 2 legged ones now that I have geese.
(((Hugs)))

Hi,
I am just thinking ahead and have a couple of "dumb" questions (I am sure), but am trying to be prepared! This year, my geese have their new night time pen which has a wood floor so they do not have any water or food. So today I got to thinking about what I was going to do when we have...
Caught Clyde trying to do his thing with one of the girls....hubby and I hurried to get the little pool unburied from the snow and got some water in it....as soon as they came back in their pen and discovered the pool he managed to get the deed done!!
We had been working on their nest boxes...
Celtic,
How many do you do at a time?
I am looking at the possibility of having to do this myself and I don't want to get overwhelmed with it all. I had planned on doing one this last fall, but one of the little ones died early on, and I had wanted to keep 2 of them.
This year I have 3...
Last year about this time my pilgrim gander (Clyde) went all ballistic with me and my husband, as well as the male alpacas that they were sharing their space with. I don't know how many times he was kicked by them for biting them in the legs....we got them moved into their own pen. (Luckily the...
I don't know why it does...mine is the Porch, Deck and Patio kind too. It has all kinds of nuts in it but the shells I have found belong to the Pistachio nuts. They are just empty cracked shells, but I am so afraid that they would get stuck in their throats or somewhere else along the way...
