I'm in Florida and when I first started last year I used the deep litter method. It's was too hot in their coop and too stinky. I switched to sand in the coop and PDZ in the poop trays. It's so easy to clean and my coops don't stink even in summer.
I have three Chicken Fountains in my two coops that are connected to my well water. My chickens are never without clean water now and I don't miss sloshing water all over myself at all.
I have my Seramas indoors and use the brooder bottle caps for them. Love them!
[ Guess I won't be letting the Seramas free range with the other chickens. Does anyone free range their Seramas? Seems they would be more likely to be taken by preditors. That is if the preditors would be brave enough! They might get their toes bitten off!
Mine "free range" in a 12' x 18'...
Thanks for the advice. It may be a moot point now. When I checked the incubator this morning the temp was 80F!!! I don't know what happened. There's power to it and the power failure thingy wasn't flashing. I have to call Brinsea...

I want to candle my eggs Wednesday. That will be day 6, but I have some questions. Do I just take out one egg at a time out of the incubator real quick leaving the lid on or can the lid be left off while I candle the eggs?
I'm so scared to do it! I need some hand holding here!
Lovely birds as usual. :)
Ra_, I enjoyed your video. Why do you call them Tribbles?
I'd been sick all week with a stomach bug and today finally had the energy to change out the bedding in the two cages. The sand and PDZ mix was just way too dusty. This time I went with crushed corn...
I had a horrible scare yesterday. I was sitting on the couch and all of a sudden heard a screaming commotion from the cages. I looked over and OMG Beckette had gotten her head stuck between the bars on top of the cage! I ran over and got her loose but what a scare. I have some hardware cloth...
Congrats on the chickies!!!!! My girlz don't seem interested in their eggs after they lay them, so I may have to buy an incubator, but for now I'm just letting them get used to their new home and me. There are lots of new noises inside the house for them and, of course, the very interested...
I don't know the color other than very pretty! What kind of cage do you have? Yes, I'm still on about the cage because I'm picking up my pairs today and the cage hasn't arrived yet! So I went to Petsmart and got a bunny cage. I figure if there are ever babies, it will come in handy. How do you...
