They are about 5 months old. I have had silkies for a long time, but sometimes I doubt myself. I have customers waiting for hens, and I don't want to be wrong. I have been suprised more than once!
I have more silkies than I want to admit to...and many roosters. For the most part they all get along great because they were raised together. Once in awhile they will get in a scuffle, but usually respond to just being separated for a bit. There is a pecking order among them just like the hens.
I have these 2 silkies (three pictures of each one), who I believe are female, but because I have a customer waiting that can only have hens, I want to be sure! They are about 4 1/2 to 5 months old!
I have taken a LONG break from this sight! Just crazy busy! Nice to see some new faces! I am in Oak View with Silkies and Standards! Right now I am totally overrun with Silkies, so have a bunch on Craigslist and need homes for some roosters! All of my Originals are from Catdance silkies. I...
I have several white, one buff, and perhaps other colors, as new ones are starting to crow, Silkie roosters I need to rehome. My original flock is all from Catdance (eggs I hatched) and they are beautiful! I am in Oak View, CA (between Ventura and Santa Barbara). Thank you!
Thank you! I have roosters that have the other traits, but for some reason, everything else on these is "hen" with the big poofy crest, small combs, no streamers....just those few iridescent colors in the tails.....
I am trying to sort out my black males from females in my silkie flock. No one is crowing yet, but some have started to get the green/blue iridescence in their tail feathers, even though they don't have "streamers" yet. Do hens ever have this coloring in their tails? Or am I safe to assume...
So sorry for a late reply! I am so busy taking care of chickens, I rarely check in here anymore! I believe an injury induced wry neck can be cured with vitamins! The wry neck, in my opinion can come on from inflamation due to trauma. Some of the vitamins can actually help reduce the...
That's great news ! In my experience, the birds will have good days and horrible days, often they are the worst just before they get better! It is so easy to get discouraged! Congratulations on being a great chicken momma!
Thanks so much for setting my mind at ease! I agree, we had a opossum take one a few weeks back - just ate out the neck and left the rest - that one did NOT get eaten!
I butchered this hen immediately on discovery of her having difficulty breathing! We ate her before I posted this... and we all lived . I monitor my chickens closely - checking on them several times a day. Especially because I am pushing them at almost 9 weeks right now. This is my first time...
OK, feeling rather silly, but we are new to the whole meat chicken thing. We have butchered 2 of our Cornish X that are approximately 8 weeks old , one due to having difficulty breathing, and the other a leg issue. Both were put into a killing cone, throat slit, bled out, then we followed the...
Good luck! It took me a full month to see progress with my silkie girl, but she is now happy and finally integrated with her flock again! She is so beautiful, and many times I was ready to give up as no progress was made, but I am so glad I didn't.
I feed my flock fermented feed - which is...
