    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We pasture our flock(currently 24 hens) I need a boy that is going to be friendly with people but stick up for his ladies. They tend to roam all over when we don't have a rooster. I don't so much care about the breed as the temperament and size. Are barred rock rooster was hands-down the best...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hey y'all! It's been ages since I've been on here, but thought I'd pop in and see if anyone in Northern Indiana had any Barred Rock roo's that needed a home (I'm happy to buy one). We lost ours to a predator a few days ago and he was just the sweetest thing ever. I'd really like to get another...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Thanks! It's been a rough week with the birds for sure. I checked in Sav's mouth and I think it's dry pox. I've still got her quarantined for the time so that I can make sure she is eating. I think I'm going to go ahead and treat everyone for worms just to rule out that possibility.

They are all mixed breed, but one is 3/4 Barred Rock and it would be hard to tell him from a full blooded rooster. He's beautiful and definitely my favorite. Of the other two one resembles a darker BR with some green and red on his wings and saddle and the third is a grizzled gray and red.

2 sudden deaths in the last week, 3rd bird acting sick. Need help!

I think they are nearing molt which is the other reason I haven't been concerned that she isn't laying. The only really distressing sign from Savannah (bird pictured) is the weight loss. That was the only sign I had when the first bird died. I have seen a couple of soft shelled eggs so I'm...

I have not seen any signs of mites, but worms are always an options.

2 sudden deaths in the last week, 3rd bird acting sick. Need help!

She is about 3 years old. The first one that died was 2 and the one I found today was 3. I have noticed some irregular droppings, but will be able to better determine now that I've identified one of the sick gals. I will give her some scrambled eggs when I get home from work and as well as...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hey y'all. I know I haven't been on in basically forever, but I'm worried I have something spreading through my flock and I'm kind of freaking out. I've link to the thread below. Has anyone else experienced any sudden deaths this summer...

2 sudden deaths in the last week, 3rd bird acting sick. Need help!

Later last week I noticied one of my hens acting very strange. When I picked her up I could tell that she was skin and bones. No food in the crop at all. I've been extremely busy the past month and have not been as active in monitoring my birds as I normally am. The next day she was so week and...

    Lethargic Hen. Please help!

It ended up being a respiratory infection. I got in touch with my vet who knows an avian expert. After some emails back and forth and some videos of her they put her on an oral antibiotic. I dosed the antibiotic 3 times a day as well as making sure she took in some electrolite water every couple...

    Lethargic Hen. Please help!

Thank you! She is a littler over a year old and not really puffed up at all, but if it can't hurt I'd rather treat her just in case. I'll pick up some Corid in the morning.

Also, she is not eating or drinking a thing. How can I get some nutrients in her?

    Lethargic Hen. Please help!

Just checked her for an egg and didn't feel anything. Is there any reason not to try Corid?

    Lethargic Hen. Please help!

Thanks! She is standing sleeping just fine so she doesn't really seem weak, just really tired. I've seen no foam or discharge or blood in stool. She did have a watery yellow poop. I will check her vent for an egg.

    Lethargic Hen. Please help!

I noticed my hen was acting strangley yesterday. Today i found her falling asleep standing up in the yard. Her crop is empty so I don't think she's eating. Felt for an egg but she doesn't apoear to be egg bound. Comb and wattles are still bright red. She does appear to be breathing a little...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Off to bed to sleep off a crummy night. Lost 2 birds to either a coon or a coyote. I got outside in time to find one. She had a broken neck and died in my arms. I feel like I failed them. I know those of us that choose to free range always run this risk, but it just stinks when we're reminded of...

I'm officially coming to live with you. I want a zedonk in the WORST way!!! I've always wanted to go to the exotic auction and just haven't gotten there yet. I about hit the floor when you I read that you think he's calm and quiet! Make me wonder what a normal guinea must be like because he was...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

My only bit of advice is get there early. The good stuff tends to go fast. I've seen some really rough looking poultry and some really quality looking poultry. I've found it's hit or miss, but there is always a lot to choose from. Definitely!
