That video needs a warning label... 🤮
Yeah, that's not going to be fun. In fact, I might seriously puke trying to do it. But I can't just let him suffer so I guess I'll just put some vicks vapor rub in my nose and suck it up.
On the bright side, I think I have some of those scooped tools...
Yep... I noticed he was tilting his head like a toddler with an ear infection but I couldn't see anything when I first put him in an outdoor quarantine pen. I realized after 3 days he was getting worse but I thought it was the wry neck/neurological issue.
I had no idea he had this huge plug of...
OK, I did clean a bunch of gunk out. I couldn't get it all. It did start bleeding... And you were right, he was quite distressed so I'm certain it was hurting him a lot. When I put him back in the cage, he acted dead. Not moving...eyes closed, mouth open. Poor fella.
I did put some triple...
Thank you again...
I will try to start cleaning it with the peroxide tomorrow...
He has been given 5 days of doxycycline. I ended that about 3 days ago.
As for medications, I don't have a ton on hand... No Baytril. I do have Metronidazole, Amoxicillan, and Doxycycline.
Would any of those...
@Wyorp Rock - thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it...
I've stopped feeding him with the eye dropper since he seems interested in eating on his own. However, I am adding electrolytes and Vitamin B Complex to his water.
His feed is a mix of 16% layer pellets...
Not that anyone is following this thread, but here's the latest...
My roo is still alive. He does seem a little bit improved but his neck muscles are still paralyzed.
I finished 5 full days of doxycycline.
I gave him about 1 cc of Vitamin B Complex every day for 5 days, as well.
I also...
The new stray buns (we named her Clarice) has clearly never been potty trained. She poops and pees wherever she's at... So her cage is quite nasty. I had to clean it today. Gave her a nice clean, thick bed of shavings...it'll have to do until I can get some PDZ. I kept the litter pan (pine...
Same. I noticed I had some small cabbage loopers worms and a bunch of Harlequin beetles on my kale. Downpour and overnight temps into the 50s. No pests anywhere on them now...
After further reading, I'm guessing this is polyneuritis (wry neck). It's so weird though because he has access to a wide variety of food every day:
Nutrena layer pellets - 22%
Steam-rolled oats
Premium scratch (corn, millet, sunflower seeds, flax, wheat, soybeans)
BOSS
Free range pasture and...
I just went out to give my roo some antibiotics and he's huddled in the corner. His head is nearly turned completely around... So so weird. I don't think he's going to make it through the day, to be honest.
Did your rooster ever make it? My rooster started doing this too. He twists and dips his head to the side... Almost like a toddler does when they have an ear infection? I put him in the quarantine pen yesterday. He's really very thin too which means he isn't eating. I'm very concerned about him.
My horse trainer had a new Ford 4x4. The transmission shakes so badly driving down the highway that they nearly crashed while pulling their 4-horse gooseneck. She said she will never buy a Ford again.
Crazy... They all seem to have something. Pick your poison.
...Laramie 4x4. It's got the hemi engine (gas, rather than diesel) but I absolutely love it. I have the Ram boxes in the bed which are so useful. My *only* complaint is the UConnect touch screen. All the electronics for the radio, temperature settings, navigation, seat settings, and phone...
