Been months now that we haven't got eggs regularly. One here and there throughout the summer. Im in Texas, its hot, been a hot go the last few months... so I get it. Temps are starting to cool off a hair some days which sure is nice! Im hoping my feathered friends are about ready to start...
I know most breeds will free range. I've had chickens for a while and grew up with em too. Leghorns are the best free ranging chickens I've had though. Just didn't know if there's any other breed that does it better.
Whats the best chicken breeds for free ranging every day? The kind of free range?
I know leghorns are quite good, I have a few of those. Looking for the guineas of chickens cuz I need em to coop up easily.
We have a plant nursery business with blocks of landscape plants and multiple greenhouses out in the country on our ranch.
We were trying with the idea of getting 20-50 guineas to runs around the nursery to eat bugs, grasshoppers, snakes, let em do their thing... middle of a field, no trees...
Do your research. There no meat chicken that lays eggs good. You get meat or you get eggs.

How you gonna close the coop up to protect from cold winds and or blowing rain?
I don't like hardware clothe, I use welded wire. Much stronger.
Seems like enough for 5 to 6 birds max. Not enough space for more. The more space the better.
Everyone has different ideas of what's best...
I got Delaware birds from ideal poultry I think... years ago. Great birds. Get to a decent size too but slow growing. Never had an issue with them at all. Calm as can be. Roo was awesome too.
I figure I need to get through these lice, and the bumble foot before looking for more issues.
I am hoping I'm right about them having lights on them and they are molting late. The hens weren't near as bad with lice as the roo was. But by all means all needed treated.

I got new to me birds a few weeks ago. Only chickens I have. They are mid life as far as I can tell.. 3 to 4 yo.. BCM flock. My easter eggers are younger.
I was looking through feathers giving them check overs... the lady I bought them from kinda screwed me...
Chickens don't get cold easily. They are fine in the teens.... its cold wind drafts and getting wet and cold that will kill em. Protect from the wind and rain. They are find buried in snow and with snow on the ground.
