    June Hatch a Long

If they are 3 hours away, I would do all I could to drive there and get them. Never know which guy in the post office is the trouble.

    June Hatch a Long

Well, I was not expecting to get in on the June hatching thread, as I was sure I was done incubating for the season..... Then my brother called to tell me he had a duck that was on a nest get killed, so I drove and got 12 eggs, with no idea when she had started setting. that was a couple weeks...

    Silkie thread!

Well, my three silkies are 3 months old today. How old are they before the roosters stick out obviously? None of these have any sign of comb or waddles. That is if you can get the fluff out of the way enough to even see their faces. I am beginning to think I ended up with three hens. No...

Help me ID this chick? DeUccles???

My brother ordered a Cackle hatchery surprise, and this gem came with it. There are a few different colored ones that have the same long feathers on the back of their upper legs. He dislikes feather legged chickens, so I will end up with them. Here are a couple pictures of the one, the feathers...

I think I am at 32 cortinux quail now. They move a bit too fast for me to count well. I should be able to get my 12 hens and 3 cocks now! They remind me of popcorn, once they fly out of the shell, they start runnin. I will see if this video works,,,,

So sorry to hear that OES, I am by NO MEANS an expert, but if it were me I would try a couple things: 1. Try to find some local white eggs from a farmer that has a good many roosters running with the hens. With white eggs to start with, then get a good bright torch and get a candler made. With...

Started with 100 shipped eggs. Had three stinkers, and 45 that either were clear or early quitters. Went into lockdown with 52. As of this morning, I am at 30 chicks so I am more than happy. I have 3 quail cages that I like to keep 1 male to 3 or 4 hens in, so I should have them filled...

That's it, I am heading to bed. 21 new quail and they are not due to hatch until tomorrow. 29 eggs left to hatch. My goal was to end up with 9-12 hens and 3 males so I may make it! Jim

Jordi15, Thank you for sharing that picture, it is amazing the positions some of them find to sleep in. Then when you wake them they can pop right up and run around. If I slept in some of those positions, it would be a half a day before I could walk right Jim

They are supposed to be normal browns. Although I already see one white one in the batch, so it is anybody's guess.

Nope, trust me, coturnix quail are mature and laying eggs at 6 weeks. They are egg laying machines. Only bird I have ever had that once in a while will lay two eggs in one day! Jim

Way to go! This is the hardest time, being patient while waiting for them to work their way out. I know it sounds bad, but I try to be gone for day 19-21. It save me the temptation to get more involved than I should Jim

nofoulfowl, I stumbled onto something last night that allows me to candle my cotunix eggs great! I have an app on my phone that turns the flash LED on steady, for a flashlight. with the rubber phone cover that I have on, the coturnix eggs seal up the hole and I can see all but a few of those...

Trust me, when they do, it is a mess. I have never had a rotten egg in an incubator until this present hatch. I started with 110 shipped coturnix quail eggs. They were the best packed eggs I have ever gotten. Started them on the 8th. By about the 12th my incubator room stunk to high heaven...
