4 week old EE's pic HEAVY

I agree...Betty n Nameless look to be cockerals. The lighter two are going to turn out to be very beautiful pullets I believe. Love the colors!

4 week old EE's pic HEAVY

PS: all these birds have muffs and beards...they just happen to be at that awkward stage between baby fuzz and juvie feathers. The muffs and beards will come back in and much fuller as they do their next molt.

4 week old EE's pic HEAVY

Sexing EEs based on comb size or color is very difficult...I have had them completely surprise me before based soley on that...HOWEVER, you CAN tell sex of EEs by the color pattern on their feathers much more accurately. But these pictures don't show any complete bodies. If you can get us...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I just went out to check on my 6 week-olds that are in my brooder in the coop because it is soooo cold and windy (they have 2 heat lamps running) and one of the barred rock cockerals was trying to crow! LOL...soooo cute but 6 weeks is WAY too young for that nonsense

Too funny...my DBF who swears he "hates" the chickens talked ME into getting the Top Hat Special from Murray McMurray....then he had to remove the "only 50 chickens" rule since 15 of them are now HIS :) Yay for no limit....muuuuhahahahah

Yeah, I was gonna go get the plywood for the new poopboards today, but the farthest I made it was sitting on the patio watching my happy chickens hunt for grass. Oh well, its a Sunday, what else can I say!

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Too funny...I'm exactly the opposite! I absolutely LOVE not knowing what I will end up with in my mixed batches. I love waiting impatiently for the adult feathers to start coming in so I can guess what they will be. Thats one of the reasons I like EEs so much I think - never quite sure which...

I lucked out at the La Porte TSC...I had the lady call me when they came in and got first pick :) Was able to get the only silkie (white) and the only Seabright (silver). They make you get 6 so I filled my order with a GLW and 3 EEs - 1 cockeral, 1 pullet, and one that I wasn't sure on.

From what I have read...the main difference is that Ameraucanas are specific colors that BREED TRUE...like black will always breed black. Most EE's are Ameraucana MIXES that still carry the same blue or green egglaying genes but will no longer BREED TRUE. True Ameraucanas can really only be...

Hello, everyone! Just finished reading this whole thread - love the idea of more chicken peeps in my "neighborhood"! ADD ME, please! I'm from La Porte, IN (46350). This will be year 4 of chickenhood for me. Am VERY lucky to have an existing old horse barn on my land to put a coop in...then...

TSC Chick Days Are STARTING NEXT WEEK!!!!!

Its either a female barred rock, or a male sex-link...was it in with other pure black chicks? Edited to say...it looks pretty light, which leads me to think it will be a roo.

    New Hen House build

I only have one question...are you single? Lmao. I've always had to build all my own coop stuff because my DBF isn't a handyman at all ;)

can week old EE chicks be feather sexed?

No...you can not feather-sex an EE, they typically do not have the gene for fast feather growth. And the blue EE's can be even harder to sex than regular "wildtype" however in my personal experience the vibrantly marked chicks have been cockerals and the smoother duller chicks have been pullets.

    Weak and Fragile Baby Chicken

My usual chick-rescue is Pedialyte instead of water, Poly-V-Sol (without Iron), and egg yolk...forget the whites - they don't have as many nutrients. You can drip some of the Poly-V-Sol on its beak and it should swallow...if it is very weak and not eating at all, it is easiest to jab its beak...
