I have to move her daily because she takes over broodys eggs (broody decided to go broody in the favorite laying box), I give her dud eggs for her clutch, she sits there for hours after she’s laid her egg and yells at anyone that comes near her, I guess this is just gonna be a game of see what...
I’m not sure why she decided to go broody the end of October!! What happened to waiting till spring lol she should hatch these guys out around Nov 10. I candled everyone this morning and everyone is doing good and right on track!
Oh I understand! One broody for me is a blast, the thought of a second (especially one that isn’t committed) worries me more than anything, just because I don’t want my broody girl to switch nests and then the other one get up and everyone die...I’m happy with one broody, 2 scares me a little...
Same here, maybe she’s just a grump, I’ve had chickens for years but never a broody, so I’m learning as I go with this bunch. The weather here is in the 50’s and 60’s during the day and 30’s and 40’s at night, so one night off the nest and everyone would quit. Chickens are so unpredictable lol
This is my first go round with a broody, this girl though is downright mean when she’s on a nest, she has all the broody signs but gets up after 4 hours or so, I just wish she’d make up her mind so I know if I should give her some eggs or just let her be a grump on some dud eggs, I’d just hate...
I have one that took the playing too far lol she’s on day 10 so I wasn’t sure if this was going to be a trend lol which would be fine with me lol how long did yours take to decide what she wanted to do?
so I have a hen, she steals my broody hens nest every day. When I or another chicken goes anywhere near her she puffs and makes what I can Only describe as demon sounds, I figured she’s trying out the broody scene, so I saved up some eggs for her, made her a nice little area, put the eggs in...
Thank you, she’s my first broody, I have no idea what works for me yet, I’m just hoping there isn’t a lot of chick murder to find out. They just started laying maybe a month ago, I was not at all prepared for a broody, so I’m just winging it at this point lol
I have a fairly large guinea pig cage that I could use also, or the elevated brooder, the elevated brooder is not inside the coop so she would be on her own with her chicks without worry of being picked on.
I have marked her eggs so I know which are hers, I’ve been collecting new eggs every morning when she’s gets up to eat, so there is no chance of a staggered hatch. I don’t have the room to block off a separate enclosure for her, she also chose the favorite box to go broody in, while it’s not...
Oh ain’t that the truth, I never thought of chickens as being brutal but I was so wrong there lol they just just be downright mean! Right now my coop is just a metal shed and everyone free ranges, they’re only in there at night to roost. I have an elevated brooder that I could put her in that as...
hello, so I have a new broody. This is her first time going broody and she’s my first experience with a broody hen, I’ve had chickens for years but never a broody. She’s on day 10 (give or take a day, i candled this morning and she looks to be on track). My questions are should I separate her...
I will do that! I was thinking he was just a weird roo, my girls just started laying a month ago so having a broody in itself is beyond exciting for me, I will definitely check out that thread!
That’s what I was thinking, he was supposed to be a she, ordered hatchery birds, so you can imagine my surprise when he didn’t match my girls lol but he’s so friendly and fat I can’t part with him!
so I have this salmon faverolle and I’m pretty sure he’s a he, buuuut at 25 weeks not so much as an attempt to crow, nothing. He(?) loves to hang out with my broody, just keeping her company, sometimes laying on top of her, he definitely looks different than my girls, whom at the same age have...
