Hi everyone! This morning when we let down out our flock we noticed that our isa brown hen had a limp. She was out all day yesterday and we never saw her limp oil this morning. I checked her foot for bumble foot but it doesn't look like thats it. She also laid an egg today so I don't think...
Okay! We had originally wanted to give away the SLW but no-one wanted him. We're going to see how things go and if it docent work out we'll look to give him away.
Hey everyone! This spring we decided to add 8 new chickens to our flock of 4. I ordered 1 cockerel and 7 pullets, but we ended up with 2 cockerels and 6 pullets. We have 1 Buff Orpington Roo and 1 SLW. Out of the hens we have 2 Buff Orpintons, 2 EE's, 2 Speckled Sussex, a SLW, a Leghorn, a BR...
The metal is pretty light so I don't think that would be an issue. The only reason we're doing this is protection from the rain and snow so we don't have to run out and cover it up with a big tarp every time it rains. That's why I want the whole thing covered
Hi everyone! We recently added an 8x8 run to out pre existing one and we're going to put a roof on it to keep rain/snow out. We don't want to make a permanent roof because our chickens love sunbathing. we were thinking of making a folding roof made of metal roofing sheets and hinges that would...
Hi, we have some new developements. The isa brown is really going after the young chickens. As soon as she is near the young ones crowd together away from her and cry. Should I put them in the gen house with the older girls or let them go to the temporary coop?
Basically what seems to happen is they both go on their separate ways and when they get near each other one of my older hens who is an isa brown goes after then a little. There hasn't been anything too bad but she did get ahold of my buff orpington cockerel pretty good (probably because he went...
Hi everyone! Today I have introduced my new 8 chickens (11 wks old) to my 4 1 yr old hens. We first let the young ones out in the yard to free range from their temporary run, then we let the big girls out too. 3 of my older hens have gave a couple pecks to the little ones but for the most part...
Hi, I also had a bad pecking problem in my flock. My advice would be to try and let them free range longer, add on to your run(if possible) and up the protein in their diet. We used to feed our hens strictly layer feed and treats but now we have switched to either all flock feed or half layer...
Hi everyone! Of the 8 chicks i recently bought, the ones Im most excited about are the 2 speckled sussex (I also have 1EE, 3BO, and 2 SLW)! I'm just wondering when the chicks will start to get their speckled color? Mine are about 9 weeks old right now. Thanks!
Hi everyone! I am getting ready to introduce my new set of chickens to my older flock! My older flock consists of 1 Easter Egger, 1 Isa Brown, 1 Barred Rock, & 1 Leghorn (all females). My new flock consists of 1 Buff Orpington Rooster, 2 Buff Orpington Hens, 2 Speckled Sussex Hens, 1 Silver...
Hi everyone, i recently got some new chicks from a local hatchery and i ordered 7 pullets and 1 cockerel. I'm afraid that i got 6 pullets and 2 cockerels though. They are 7 weeks old and we're just moved outside. we noticed that the cockerel and a "pullet" started going at each other a lot. The...
