    Stormcrow's Hobby Farm

Had a propane leak, outside the camper. Its fixed. I have a dual tank setup, one of the regulator hoses is "persnickety". Next replacement, I'll go to a two stage regulator/single tank system and just move tanks. I can't find a reliable hose mfg whose fittings stay sealed at the tank...

    Layer feed??!! Mixed age flock.

I have a Culling Project. As part of that project, I do a lot of "feed things" I don't recommend for others, because the tradeoffs are worth it to me. I like to tell myself I know enough about feeding birds that I can weight those risks intelligently and make rational decisions in response. If I...

    Layer feed??!! Mixed age flock.

I have used Purina w/ success. I have also used Nutrena w/ success. I have used Tucker Milling, which should have performed better than it did, based on the nutritional label - but was as successful as the Nutrena and the Purina as well as being better priced locally. Plenty of people whose...

    Stormcrow's Hobby Farm

Need to pull a couch and a desk out. So that I can finish the floor project. This weekend out of propane, in the middle of nowhere. Trying to fill it up so that we can finish cooking dinner. The closest place with propane doesn't have an employee on hand right now to actually pump propane. The...

    Layer feed??!! Mixed age flock.

I don't recommend brands, I compare labels. What is consistently available to you, fresh, with a nutritional label you find acceptable, at a price you are will to pay???? That, for you, is Best.

    Calling All Rabbit Nutters

Skip this, those who prefer not to read it... . . . . . I raise Continentals for the dinner table. Quite tasty. If you've ever heard that rabbit is "lean"? Its true. Very easy to overcook. Big disparity in thickness of parts once things are broken down, as well. Makes it hard to cook...

    Stormcrow's Hobby Farm

When I built my barn, I thought it was huge. Experience has taught me otherwise. Eventually, I'll have a much bigger pole barn erected, then add sides on my own. For now, it suffices. Also, "Barn Red" gets surprisingly hot in the FL Sun!

Saw this on facebook. I need to send a few more rounds down range. I'm in the white [and if the 6.5 Creedmore wasn't so flat shooting, I'd not be there]. Still not good enough to send those goats to camp. Haven't had time to practice.

Need soft food ideas for weight gain

I was thinking 4%. Chickens don't store fat well, I'd not recommend trading one dietary problem for another. Obviously, healthy, active chickens not contained in little cages have dietary needs (including energy - often in the form of fat) higher than their cage kept others. Note I did NOT...

    Deep bedding vs Deep Litter?

@Ridgerunner 's post was inspiration for me.

Need soft food ideas for weight gain

Scrambled eggs, lowfat plain yogurt, canned cat food, fermented mash. Hopes for a quick recovery.

I feel for you - blackwater tank clogged on the RV. While fixing it, kneeling in a puddle of (still clean) water, I found there was a bonded ground path. RV frame was (mildly) electrified. *tingled* Fixed now. Not the weekend chores I had planned.

Making Lemonade [Selective Culling Project - very long term]

Its a good post I've seen before. There are also predators who key on movement. and profile. Pattern is good for profile, helpful for movement.

    Fermented food jars keep cracking??

Yup, the baking did it. The only jars I see crack that way are large pickle jars subjected to thermal shock (when I put hot tap water in a cold jar I just emptied). Fridge 34* (sometimes colder). Our tap water 122*. *Ping* with some frequency. Same location and shape - the complex curve of...

    Free range question

Good luck on your chicken keeping journey! I was up to near 100 at one point. Around 20 at present. Considering one last incubation before packing it up for the year.

Overwhelmed With Feed Thoughts, Please Help!

Honestly, just giving back to the community - a few years ago when I was just starting out (just as the Pandemic hit), I knew nothing more than what I read in "Storey's Guide to..." and "...for Dummies". Others here helped improve on my knowledge, posted links to sources, and I've had time to...
