Here in the Campton/Thorton area we have about 6 known problem bears, we've had two of them recently. We also have a small pack of coyotes(5-6) who are regulars in the area. If you call fish and Game they will tell you to put up an electric fence.
Hi there, how have you faired with...

Yup there are bear paw marks on the side of the trailer, and claw marks. The wondow was busted in and the second door(pivot close) was opened. Cages were tested, but only the easy birds were taken(20+). My roo's are stressed as heck, but everyone is ok for the most part. Since this has been...
So to add insult to injury my coop has been broken into and all my baby chicks eaten, with the rabbit cages moved about the room. Whatever it was was able to move 60+ pounds. My roos(in the rabbit cages are shell shocked and my pigeons(in there for protection) are all stressed. I'm just about...

nice to see a new person. do you have chickens? if so, what kind?
Thanks for the welcome! I do not have chickens yet - came here to do my homework first. A friend has 100+ Barred Rocks and after meeting them I am hooked. Just need to figure out how to make a minor change to our deed...
stage one of "fort truecolorsloft" is complete, and the fish and game guys are coming by tomorrow to confirm it's a bear. We told them it's a three foot hold in our coop with fresh bear pie near by. LOL! They gave us permission to shoot so the 12 gauge is loaded and ready JIC. We'll see how...
Just a heads up to anyone near our neck of the woods, this past week we've lost a few cats in the neighborhood to a bear, and Last night he got all of our Turkeys! All this the day before we were going to put up the electric fence. Sofar we've lost 6 birds to this guy, and the neighborhood...
Well we sold one pair of giants out of the crate, and they went home with the birds Jen and Heather sold them. It was a quiet day, and at the end we sold two more giant girls to the gentleman next to us. The same gentleman also adopted out bantam NH Red. We came back home with more duck eggs.
Well we have internet againand wha a week! I lost all my chicken eggs due to a "well meaning family member" who unplugged and moved the incubator while we were moving. Ohwell. Duck eggs still look good though. And on another bright side I also sold two of my breeding pairs of rollers...
It all depends on the birds. I currently have two "half brothers" living in a conure sized cage, roughly 20X21" floor space, with no issues, and my loft has several "segregation cages" that are 24X24X16 rabbit cages. One unit has 4 roller males and 1 helmet hen. We wintered them in this cage...
Sorry, just saw this. I'd suggest a general antibiotic and electrolites(sp?) for your male. Also if you have an avian vet, have your bird checked out and at the very least have him in quarentine, JIC he has something that could pass to the other birds. That's what I have, hope it helps
Chris
We used 8mm/size 8 for our racing homers(NPA bands) and size 11/11mm for our giant homers, when we had homers. That being said, i have a roller in my flock who is banded with an AU size 7 band so I'd say it all depends on the size of your birds and how they compare.
nope...this weekend Shawn and I are moving in with my father-in-law, and sunday mid day we're celebrating my nana's 90'th B-Day. We'll be at chichester unless something else comes up.
