She just laid an egg!!! She’s looking much better and is clicking and eating again. I found this monstrosity in the egg box.. The egg isn’t broken, though. What could be stuff around it then? Yolk or poop?
I have a 3 1/2 year old Rhode island red hen. Today when I went to let her out of the coop, she was lethargic and didn’t make noise to greet me like she usually does. She was fine yesterday, though. She just went into the bushes to hide and her bottom is sort of.. half open. What could this be...
Thank you so much! About what age should the new chicken be? Also, do chickens mourn the loss of others? :hit Mine seemed very understanding. I don't know if she knew her sister died, but she wandered around looking for her the last few days and looked to be quietly thinking, as if she...
I only have two RIR hens. One died last night while I was away at band camp. I'm not quite sure what happened myself, but apparently he head got stuck in a hanging pot.
Now she's listless and silent again - she will still eat but is slower to respond. She won't cluck, either. Her poop is normal. What could this be? Help!!
Also, is there any other way to check for a stuck egg? (I don't really trust myself with the vent method)
At first, I couldn't find her. I called for about 5 minutes before I looked under the deck and found her, unresponsive. She did end up coming out, but her comb was very pale and she was panting and not talking. I thought she had heat stroke at first, so i dipped her into cold water and patted...
She hasn't laid an egg in about a week. She is a 15 month old Rhode Island Red. Her comb is pale and her beak ks open. Its been getting hotter in our area, shes not talking and looks stunned. She jjst plopped herself into the nestbox jist now. Help is this egg binding??
Thanks for all the input!
Her wing is fine now. It's her right foot that I'm concerned about. That foot is getting better every day, thankfully, but she mostly gets around by hopping. I'm pretty sure that the same foot has regained some strength over the past few days. Is there anything else I...
Thanks for your help!
So she's looking a bit better - she can stand now, but her right foot drags behind and is curled up. I'm afraid it could be broken, but this is the third time it's happened. The first was because of Marek's, which I healed her of with St. John's Wort and turmeric. The...
Thanks for the advice! I'll clean out the coop later today.
I was thinking of using peppermint oil in the meantime, before the traps come. Will the scent of the peppermint oil harm the chickens? I don't want it to hurt their respiratory systems.
