Buddy Henry's farm was in Tennessee last I know, but the site is gone. He is a member here - goes by "Wheaties" - I don't know him, but I thought he was a pretty well - known breeder.
It is my understanding that he was a pretty well known breeder and had some nice birds...

Hello DMRippy -Just for clarification because this may help you and/or others --- blue does not replace the black allele. Blues still carry 2 black alleles at the extension locus, they just also carry blue at a different location. Does that make sense? So your splashes? They still...

Just a note that this page: https://www.backyardchickens.com/breeds/marans/4158 can be updated. The APA now recognizes not only Black Coppers, but also Wheatens. Let me know if you need anything in order to update the page.
Thanks so much!

This looks more like a salmon - is it silver salmon perhaps?
If you are getting it out of another variety, you will have to cull any that come out with the Autosomal red and mahogany, etc for Silver Salmons and if they're gold too - you want a clearly salmon breast - she may have it...

TSC has a 27' long by 24" high roll of chicken wire for $9.99. If you are anywhere near me (GA) I have a big roll (probably at least 20 feet long of old 2"x4" 4' high wire you can have - it wouldn't keep little chicks in - but it would keep them in eventually.
It's square feet, that is quite a small area really ( 4 square feet is a 2x2 foot square). I still always give them much larger areas than the minimum required! According to the Gail Damerow book, 2.5- 3 square feet per bantam is required. That's really pretty small. Smaller than my Dane's baby...
That is so cute! Did you use a plan?
I bought a book of plans, but found they were really lacking in a lot of things, but it did give me some ideas....
