Is it ok if 2 hens are coparenting??

I have 2 broody girls that are sitting on eggs next to each other in separate nesting boxes. Today is day 21 for one hen and day 9 for the other. They switched this morning and my question is, is that ok? I am not sure if they will switch back but is it ok for the one who was on day 9 to hatch...

Chickens keep going into neighbor's yard

Thanks everyone. I am going to fence in an area around their coop and will have to leave them in there until the afternoon then let them out for just a few hours at the end of the day instead of all day long. It kills me to have to do that as I love having them free range and they are so happy...

The coop isn't movable and it isn't near the neighbor's property line.

Chickens keep going into neighbor's yard

Yea I have I just was hoping not to do fencing but that may be my only choice until whatever is in my neighbor's yard stops being so enticing.

Chickens keep going into neighbor's yard

I have no idea what is over there that they want so badly because I have so much space. They have a lot of leaves on the ground but so do I! I have them whistle trained to come back for scratch but they come back for the treat then run right back over to the neighbor's. I try to keep an eye on...

Chickens keep going into neighbor's yard

They can get into the neighbor's yard from so many directions so it would be impossible to fence off their access to the yard.

Chickens keep going into neighbor's yard

My chickens keep wandering into my neighbor's yard even though they have 5 acres to free-range on. My run is pretty small and so I don't like to leave them in there all the time and they are so much happier free-ranging but I really don't want them wandering into my neighbor's yard. Does anyone...

    Deep Bedding Help/Question

I have hardware cloth across the whole top and a 3" gap of air between the purlins and the metal roof. I am in Western North Carolina. Decently mild weather but we do get snow and some cold days in the winter.

    Deep Bedding Help/Question

I am trying out the deep bedding method and I have 17 birds and they roost over this 4' - 6' space. It is starting to smell a bit like ammonia and doesn't seem to dry out as much as I was hoping. I turn it about once a week and I have full roof ventilation. Do I just have too many chickens to...

    Worms in poop

Do you think it matters if I do the second dose on day 12? I won't be home on day 10 or 11. Or I could wait a few days to do the first dose in order to hit it on 1 and 10.

    Worms in poop

I saw this nasty cluster of worms in my droppings this am. Only saw this one chunk. What do you recommend for treatment? I have 17 birds and they're not easy to catch so the most efficient solution the better please!

Hatched 7 cockerels and 3 hens

I have many breeds so I will opt for the least aggressive. The father of this hatch had to go because he was very aggressive towards humans. Maybe I will have better luck second time around. Thank you for your reply!

Hatched 7 cockerels and 3 hens

I hatched my first clutch of eggs this year and disappointed that 7 of them are cockerels and only 3 hens. Is there anything different I can do next year? Is this a fluke or pretty common? Also I am going to keep one for future hatching - any suggestion of how to determine which one to keep...
