I've had a couple of runners and yes they can be a little excitable, but their enthusiasm and exuberance more than make up for it. They always are the first in line for anything and tend to become flock leaders. Of course, I've only had two now, both girls, but that's my experience so far!
Poor sweet Daisy. Did you introduce them slowly when you first got her? Usually folks will keep them in separate pens where they can see each other and interact through a fence for a while before they really start living together. Then they move on to supervised time together, usually...
You could try your local shelter, or craig's list for ducks that need rehoming. There are also a couple of forums on here that might be good too, the "Buy, Sell, Trade" one or the "Where am I? Where are you?" one could put you in touch with someone in your area. Or if there any avian rescue...
Oh, cool, that's a good idea for keeping the muddy pool water down to a minimum.
So when you siphon your bigger pool, you at first run the hose into the pool, then turn it off, unhook it from the house and then let the water run out backwards? Does it ever get clogged up? My main concern...
Hi Miss Lydia,
I have a question about your pool set-up. I see that it is sitting on a pallet, did you install a drain or anything in it? I'm curious as to why you have it raised up like that. I've just got one sitting on the grass, but I move it every few days so it doesn't kill the grass...
If he/she is actiing fine otherwise, eating well, and generally just being ducky, then I would say maybe he/she's a cross. Looks to maybe have some Cayuga mixed in? Either way it's a beautiful duck!
I don't have any males and I'm torn on whether to get one or not. I heard that they are generally great snugglers with humans, but yes they can be rather aggressive with the ladies. I don't have room right now for more anyway. So I'll just have to wait.
The heat shouldn't affect them at all, but the question is, do you want more ducks? If so, I would move them like Cyndi said to a safe place where you want them to be, like the nesting box. Since your girls are young they might not get it right away, so you may have to incubate them yourself...
Thanks Jade, yes there don't seem to be any other changes, so I think they are healed at this point. I don't really know what did it, it could've been lots of things since i've got some wild areas with sticks in the yard. Although now the one duck also has a bumble and the other duck, who has...
Thanks Amiga, I'm not really sure what would cause holes so big, unless it just ripped the web when it went through. I've got raspberries growing kind of wild in one corner of the yard, plus roses, and a kind of tall grass wild area that they like to roam around in. There's all sorts of...
I do have some rose bushes, plus some wild areas in the yard that they like to play jungle duck in. It could've been lots of things I guess. The antibiotic is a good idea. I will put some on when I get some pics today.
