R. I. P. Little Eggies
One of the dorking exploded in the 'bator
Candled the others and it looks there was nothing going on after I last candled (day 10 or so)
The marans were in various stages of development...Only on e looked like it would have gone full term if Hermione hadn't come...
Wish I had some wisdom for you!
Am in a similar situation myself, so I can feel your pain.
When my broody gave up I put as many as i could in the incubator (12) and the remaining 4 under another broody. She has lost one of them to a crow (I think). Yesterday was day 21, but they might be off...
Today should be hatch day.
Nothing is happening in the 'bator.
Went to collect the fresh eggs from under Helen. One of the marans was covered in some kind of liquid. It was melly, but not foul-smelling. Could it be there is a chickie in there trying to get out?!
Obviously I left her...
Thank you for the help!!!!
Have turned off the turner now.
Seem to have the Battle of the Broodies going on outside:
Hermione deffinately doesn't want eggs unless Helen is sitting on them. Poor little Helen is being beaten up!
At this point, I'm hoping they will both settle down and be...
Ummmm...so how did we all do when the hen abandoned the eggs?
I think Hermione was off the eggs for about 2 hours before I cottoned on!!!
When I first noticed, the eggs were not cold to the touch...just sort of my boy temperature.
By the time I had put the incubator together and got it all...
Sooooooo EGGCITED!!!!!!
All 6 Dorking are coming along nicely
As for the Marans...Well I knew it was going to be hard to see anything!
Either they are ALL duds, which doesn't seem likely, or I just can't see anything
Due date is May 3rd. Such along way away!!!!
So potentially...
Bless! Neeeeeed some of those!!!!!
Mine still have another 10 days to go!
Hermione is sitting tight. Seems to have smashed 2 of the maran eggs, but the other 16 are all warm! Am going to candle if it ever warms up and dries out enough to get her off the nest for a minute!
I think she has...
I leave them to sit for 24 hours at room temperature.
They say it's important to get them out of any plastic wrapping so they can breathe.
In the meantime it's important that the hen is really sitting tight...I don't order the eggs until she has been sitting for a few days.
And I also get her...
We lost an egg today
I found the shell with about 1/3 of the fat end eaten off just outside the door of the broody house. There was a little yolk left in it. At 6 days it would have had something to see if it was fertile, wouldn't it?
The gooey bits were in the broody house just outside...
