If it was DVE the lab would have known the second they opened the bird, the lesions in the esophagus and intestines are pretty specific to DVE. Testing is pretty accurate and easy to confirm if the necropsy points that way. The labs test for infectious disease even when you don't ask them to.
We have an Embden goose who is being fitted with a prosthetic leg right now. Cosmo lost his leg due to a fishing line injury. We are working with an avian vet and a specialist from Duke University to have a leg made for Cosmo. You can follow his progress on our facebook page...
This could be due to an injury as well. We frequently get birds with air sac punctures from a predator that will fill them with subQ air. The antibiotics would fix it but you may want to look closer for evidence of trauma.
The breeders are kept alive up to 2 years on the factory farms. So if you really feel its inhumane that they are kept alive in a rescue but you think its ok they are kept alive 2 years on a factory farm your a completely hypocrite.
I dont need to do any research i know everything i need to...
Just for the future reference - We will usually give out advice on how to do something like wrap a wing. Mosty people seem to think we are here to provide free service to their pets and thats not our purpose. We do our best to help but our policy for surrender is in place because many times...
There is a lot of misinformation going around here so allow me to clear some things up. I am speaking in general about seizures, raids etc. This is not specific to the recent turkey case. Its in response to information being presented here about our rescues practices that are incorrect...
This was on our website, and we included pictures of the actual postcard duck. He did lay there for 4 days while people walked past him all day long and no one cared.
He was doing so well and came down with a secondary infection and later died after we worked so hard to save him.
RIP...
Grandma Mary (as we call her) is back at the rescue. The son of the original owner adopted her so he could take her for visits to see his mom. She is obviously two years older than she was the last time we had her. She doesnt have much time left I am afraid.
I am working on getting some...
PS We had to deal with the USDA on this case, because of the disease issue. I was appalled they require food and water 24/7. We actually make food available to our birds 24/7 but I have a great pyrenees dog and my goodness he would be 400 pounds. A friend of mine said when she used to run a...
I was actually doing a report on some of these birds and found this thread in google. Small world. Just my thoughts since I saw the place and I have been taking care of the animals that came from there. Every one of the birds was diseased in some way. With the exception of 5 out of 300 they...
chickensioux brings a sleeping bag when she comes to the Waterfowl Rescue to camp out
The Rosters name is Marmalade, I think he is Charlottes most famous chicken. He has a facebook page if the forum lets you post links.

Find food in the bag that you know what your getting. Feed or lack of nutrition is the number one cause of lameness (for us at least). Also consider that pekins arent bred for longevity and often have congential defects.
You need to examine whether the tendons on the legs are intact and...
we get in a lot fo ducks that are raised singly with chickens. They follow the chickens around for a few days then figure out they are ducks. The sooner they get in with ducks the quicker they learn.
PS we got in about 40 birds from the side of the road a couple weeks ago. Ours were nicely packaged in disgusting small crates though. Someone bought at the auction went to the flea market sold them and then left what didnt sell. A few died since it was 100 degrees here when your not inside a...
Having to wait two hours never happens when people come to the rescue. There are several peole here who get birds from us who can attest to the fact that we arent anti-people and like to make people suffer around waiting.
Sometimes mistakes happen like one person making an appointment but...
I understand that some places are too rigid I got turned down for a dog adoption once becuase I was going to make my dog go outside into my fenced yard when i wasnt home. A 200 great pyrenees who was bred to be outside guarding livestock and they wanted him running lose in my house when I wasnt...
The chickens were part of a court order surrender from what I understand. They pushed the court date back til may so the chickens cant be released. Knowing the court system they may end up not releasing them at all. So we will keep people posted as the situation progresses. The reason they...
A couple of thoughts here is that #1 no one is forcing you to get any animal from a rescue. Its a free country, rescues arent monopolizing animals adoptions and forcing harsh rules to punish people. There are lots of places to adopt and many rescues with many different rules.
Rescuers put...
