I can picture it lol. He's not too determined yet but I caught him making up the nest boxes today and calling the hens to it so i guess love is on his mind. He is so adorable
So I have to ask, are silkie Roos able to get the job done with large fowl breeds? Mine seems to really have a thing for my big fluffy Orpington but I just can't see it working lol.
he really is adorable. I wasn't going to keep any Roos out of the eggs that hatched but he was SO cute. He hasn't been able to mount the hens yet though. They are all big girls except for my one silkie hen. He really likes my big fluffy Orpington but she's not interested lol
This is my silkie roo Boo. He has the round poofy head but you can see his streamers sticking out. I'm really curious about his feather coloring. I haven't seen anything like it before. His hackle feathers are tipped in a cream/yellow and some of the feathers in his back. It's almost like...
I have 2 broodies sitting on 4 eggs each. It's been 18 days. one of the eggs got broken open yesterday and a fully formed chick died:(. Is it safe to candle the rest or should I leave them alone? I'm just curious how many viable eggs are left. I know at least a few had development.. I checked...
it's been super cold here, unusually so for VA. My 2 older girls haven't laid much at all the last few weeks but my 4 new girls are laying like champs. I'm getting 3-4 eggs a day, mostly from the younger girls. I suppose that's normal?
Sigh, I'll join in here. I have 4 pullets that hatched July 18 and only 2 of them are laying so far, both EEs and laying medium sized blue eggs. The other EE and the Marans are not laying yet. I'm really waiting for a pretty dark brown egg! She looks so ready, red face, large wattles and comb...
...that I recently had to rehome. He was a big beautiful EE, solid black, didn't crow a lot and not very loud, but my older girls did NOT like his uh, *attentions* and my blue orp actually started hiding from him so he had to go. I craigslisted him and found someone who wanted a new rooster...
20 week old EE rooster, black all over with some cream hackle feathering. Beautiful greenish sheen to his tail feathers. He's just started to crow and it's not very loud, but my older girls can't stand him (especially when he tries to do his roosterly duties) and I have to rehome him. He's...
My blue orp is in a terrible molt right now and when I let the chickens out to free range the yard in the evening, she just sits in the pen or coop by herself. Usually she's the first out of the gate. She's terribly grumpy and covered in prickly quills.
They hatched July 18, here they are on the 21st I think.
A week or so old...
and now, this was my only marans that hatched. Her? name is Furball. Still can't decide on gender.
Hank, my only roo. They are 9 weeks old. Sometimes they roost, sometimes they still pile up in the...
OK, finally got a close up of Furball's comb. Still undecided on boy/girl. 9 weeks old tomorrow. Opinions?
and
as opposed to my obvious roo, Hank. I know he's an EE so not the same type, but his comb is SO obviously rooster, to me anyway
