hey all. I have a customer that is looking for some heritage breeds. I have a flock of Buff Orpingtons but am looking for some Barred Rock and possibly others. Im looking for the eggs so i can hatch out for them. I prefer not to ship them so hopefully someone will be near me. Im located in...
It varies here. We have mostly mild winters with lows around 20's. But we have not had a harsh winter in 3-4 years so i figure that we are due anytime now.
Looking for some advice. I have three hens that have decided to go broody at the same time. 2 of them are proven mothers. My question.... Is it to late in the season to let sit on eggs to hatch? Winter is coming. I am in central North Carolina. Will mom be able to keep them warm enough after...
Yes. I calibrated it and also have 2 other thermometers in there. All read the same. I woke up this morning to two baby quail. I also hatched chickens with them with no problem.
The eggs have been in the bator for 1 month! I broke one open tonight and to my surprise I found a baby quail still alive! It appeared fully formed but had what appears to be a hook sack attached to its belly. When I rubbed the yolk sack it appeared to be coming out of the quail. I left the...
I take that back. I didnt read that they were for your students. You cover the shipping and ill send how ever many you need. Have to protect our future and instill the old ways into todays youth.
They were set to hatch at the same day (round about). They did not pip internally. there was 2 of the 10 eggs that the air cell grew to big. I am trying to hatch these for a friend. I cant tell you the age, health or quality of her birds. I just find it weird that all of my chicken eggs hatched...
I have attempted to hatch several batches of quail eggs that i recieved from a friend. None of them hatched. Out of every batch i have about 90% of them that progress and are alive up until lockdown but never hatch. I hatched out 15 chicken eggs with the quail eggs. Temp stays regulated at 99.6...
there are several videos on youtube about people making them out of styrofoam coolers. They appear to work pretty well. You can buy a egg turner and put it in there or turn them by hand.
The specks do not scrape off and i am assuming that they are normal. As for the feed. I am feeding layer feed with oyster shells added into it. I do not have a seperate oyster shell open to them freely.
I have 2 eggs in question. One of my golden comets are laying nice large dark brown eggs but they have a white splash on the egg. Everything is smooth, no lumps or anything. Why is this? Im assuming its normal. I have incubated several of her eggs and had 100% hatch rate from them.
2nd...
OK @cjwaldon I am cleared to play. Who is leading the games and what are we playing. I can offer up buff orpingtons or Golden buffs. Or if you want just a barnyard mix.
Heres a video of the guy adjusting the temp. Not the best video but its the best i could find after watching about 30 videos lol
Side note....definetly use a seperate thermometer. I have read that the styrofoam that it is shipped in should be left on it to hold the heat in better. You will...
I dont always trust the hygrometer on the incubator. Some are true but some arent. Get a seperate thermometer/hygrometer and place in there also. In mine i have the units one, and two others that i placed in there.
Like i said. Sometimes you get lucky with them. Im pretty sure i found a video on youtube with a guy talking about how to operate it. If i can find it i will link it on this page.
