She had trouble walking into the coop with the girls that night. I picked her up and set her in so she didn’t have to struggle. When I let them out in the morning, she, unfortunately, didn’t make it. :(
I have a three year old hen who’s walking incredibly slow and looks pretty lethargic. I noticed this before sundown yesterday. This morning, the first thing I did was check on her. She was laying next to their food and water. That’s the only area she seems to want to be around. Her tail feathers...
Thank you! I don’t think I can isolate them like that. Although I do have a crate for a small dog they can fit in, but no garage to keep them protected overnight. Unless I put them in the run in the crate at night... you’ve got my wheels spinning on what to do.
Thank you. You’re very helpful and I really appreciate it. I don’t think I can burn anything on my property unless I want the cops called on me. Haha! But I definitely am thinking of a different route as far as disposal of contaminated poop. Maybe a separate bag and separate garbage can that can...
Thank you for your reply. Here are the worms I am seeing. Would you happen to know what type of tapeworms these are? It’s a little more reassuring poultry tapeworms are mostly host specific. There are not only a lot of cats, but possums and occasionally raccoons that love our yard too. Critters...
I am very disappointed and have become paranoid about my chickens having tapeworms. They were recently treated with prazequantal as soon as I noticed the segments in their stool and it seemed to work. I cleaned their coop as throughly as possible and gave them another doze ten days later. All...
Man, I wish I knew about the waddle trick with the rest of the chickens. Thanks for the advice. I will use it on my stubborn one today, if I can catch her. My BO are a little more hesitant of humans than my sex links, but this BO is the only one who doesn’t squat when you come near. She full on...
I am on top of keeping the coop as clean as possible. New bedding is switched out of the coop once a month, but they are chickens. They poop on everything. Then scratch it all around! Lol. They used to free range the entire yard and had an endless amount of grass to forage but I had to make a...
Thank you. They definitely have worms. I saw the little white segmants moving. Makes my stomach turn just thinking about it. Hopefully they havent been infested too long. They are only about a year old.
My biggest concern is my five year old son. He helps me every morning collect eggs, let the chickens out of their run to free range and change their water. Our fruit trees are in the area where they free range and our apricot trees are flourishing right now. We are very involved with our...
Thanks! I will do another round of medication in two weeks too. If it doesn’t work, I will try safeguard. Had a dream about five days before finding tapeworms in their stool that I had a parasite in my head, so I’ve been REALLY overthinking this. 😫
Am I supposed to keep my chickens locked in their run on days I deworm them? Because I just used dewormer a few days ago and didn’t do that. Their poop still looks a bit contaminated. Not sure if that’s normal. No worms are moving, though. Also, there are a bunch of stray animals that roam the...
Oh wow... ok. They take off running from me, so if I can grab her. I’m also a single mom. My only help would be my five year old and I don’t want him around them right now even though he would LOVE to hang a chicken upside down, lol.
Btw- I love your profile picture.
Why didn’t I think of this? Thank you! My buffs are beautiful, but very snobby. I ended up running out of the dewormer trying to get them to take it and threw away the box so forgive my spelling if it’s wrong. It was called praziquantel. I have to get another one tomorrow.
My chickens have tapeworm segments in their stool. I bought a dewormer specifically for tapeworm. There was some bread in my fridge. I filled up small pieces of the bread with small doses of the dewormer, but they didn’t want anything to do with it. They were very hungry too. I purposely did not...
I have eight chickens. I am not sure which one has tapeworm because all of them seem to always poop. Its hard to keep track of whos leaving what on the ground. Is there a way to tell besides poop? One chicken is losing a lot of feathers but I thought she was just molting. Could she be sick from...
Thank you. We are VERY clean people but unfortunately our neighbors are severe hoarders and I suspect the constant fleas and rodants we have to deal with from them could be the issue.
We have a TON of flies right now. It is driving me nuts. I have a fly repellent bag that is supposed to smell awful and I have been hesitent to put it up because it will be close to a cottage we rent out in the yard.
