    tube feeding

I've never had to deal with a mink thus far. So sorry for all of your losses! Good luck to you! Necropsy is expensive here too. I've heard some states do it for free. Lucky people! I have one duck that the vet had to amputate a toe on. The current duck is not a candidate for amputation...

    Avian Flu.

Makes me wonder if back yard flocks are the answer.......if we didn't have highly concentrated barns full of chickens that never see the light of day or grass under their feet, perhaps, just perhaps, where it begins and spreads, eventually to all of us..... would be eliminated.

    Bird Flu US

Interesting article. I'm not a conspiracy theorist either but I do think ahead. My flock is a back yard pet flock and I don't want them at risk anymore than someone who earns their living that way. We have the same battle. Further, I heard about the whole, send to China to slaughter...

    Bird Flu US

Gosh, I feel for you. I can't even imagine having to keep my flock inside. Mine are so used to free ranging they would go crazy! Good luck to you! I get where you are coming from that the UK is an island and is contained but here we are all connected and I'm so so so worried that the...

    tube feeding

I'm so sorry that you lost her. Mine is still eating some but just not enough. We have been tube feeding once to three times a day. All depending on when I have help or not. I can't do it alone, she is too wiggly. Mine has an infection in her ankle joint which started this whole thing...

    Bird Flu US

Any one else concerned about the recent bird flu found in TN? To all of you in TN are you hearing anything about your back yard flocks and what to do? Any one from Britain etc can give us over here in the US some advice about how it all started over there? Did it start in a factory farm and...

    Avian Flu.

I'm nervous about it. Hope they can keep it contained. Feel so bad for all those birds in TN. :( We may need to ask our "across the pond" friends on here to see what advice they may have.

    Feathe lice

It isn't that I plan to ignore it. I want to address it in the least stressful way for them and the least chemical way for all of us. IF they are in deed over infected. The vet said the amount he saw on her was not something that needed to be treated. She is one of the ducks I've noticed...

***UK RESIDENTS - BIRD FLU ADVICE***

I just want to say I feel for all of you. I'm in the US but I'm sure it's just a matter of time until we need to take the same precautions all of you are. I'm so sorry all of you have to go through this. I would be worried sick. I can't imagine having to coop my ducks up inside for that...

    Ducks with special Needs

This is a great thread!!! Thanks quackers619! Dandelion is adorable! I wouldn't necessarily call my ducks special needs.....because they don't need any extra help from me but..... I have a duck, Mr. Fiona, who had a serious eye infection and lost the sight in one eye. After being nursed...

    Feathe lice

I've been searching this forum for a while now and I'm sure the answer to my question is out there but I just can't seem to find it. My duck was at the vet for something else entirely but while we were there he pointed out that she had feather lice. I had no idea . Her case is not bad. He...

    HELP! Is this bumble foot?

Swollen ankle is on the right side of pic Hi. I don't really know if that is exactly bumble foot or not but I wanted to see how he was getting along. Did the antibiotics help? My duck just came home from the vet with the exact antibiotics. He didn't say bumble foot but he did think...

Peanuts and freezing weather diet changes?

Thanks! As far as them not eating as much......Could be a lot of things. I have 2 ideas.....My ducks tend to go through cycles. For a handful of days they eat like crazy and then for a handful of days they just don't eat as much. It used to worry me when I first started noticing it but now...

Peanuts and freezing weather diet changes?

I've never heard of using peanuts. I'll have to look into that. I wouldn't worry about weight gain either. I like my duckies to be a little "rounder" in the winter. I've tried mixing black oil sunflower seeds in with their food but they always picked around them. When ever my ducks pick...

    starving duck help

I live around some old schooled farmers as well. You may need to "think" like them to get through to her. Here are a couple of ideas.... Many farmers get rid of their excess animals before winter sets in so they won't have to feed them. So perhaps you could approach her on that note...
