Merry Christmas!🎄 Well I had her on the Enrofloxacin for 9 days. It made no difference, and now not only are her ankles swollen, her “knee” joints are also. I’m now trying tart cherry extract - maybe it’s gout?? I don’t know what else to do.
How is yours?
Just a thought from my experience….I had 6 welsummers as a flock, and I got so tired of trying to stare at the comb differences to figure out who was who, or the subtle color differences or size differences, that I now get a different breed for each chicken so I can immediately know who is who...
It’s not the temperature, it’s the daylight that affects laying. When daylight increases again, they will or should start laying. (Unless there are other underlying issues)
I just go directly to the usda website to keep informed.

I have a 3 yr old speckled Sussex hen with the same swollen ankle condition. Both her ankles are affected. I am assuming MS. I just ordered Enrofloxacin 10% pills for her. (I don’t know how much to give tho.).
I have one that is all pin feathers on her legs and belly, with very few feathers on her upper parts. It was 3° F this morning. I wasn’t worried about her at 20° F, but getting close to 0° F concerned me. So she is in a shed we heat to 50°. I’ll move her back out after she grows some...
It depends on how often they run, of course. But for me, maybe a month or two. We have a spare battery so I just swap them out, but charging them does not take long-a couple hours at most.
I don’t know if this information helps you, but I have two Millie Fleur D’uccle hatched in March of this year. Both started laying in August-one continues to lay regularly, the other stopped laying and is molting some. I figure the molting one will start laying when the days get longer again.
Maybe they were actually referring to this:

I went to the website. The price range is 107.00 to 152.00, for overhead product depending on which length you want. I purchased the longest available 11x40.
