I do add it to mine, but not a lot. It did cut down on my lice issues and so far I haven't noticed any added issues with respiratory issues with my girls. However, it might be partially due to not having it be a large quantity in their dust bathe area
I find that the first cold snap or two can weed out any of my livestock that are weak. Sometimes they can appear okay but the added stress of the cold is what pushes one over and we lose them. Sorry for your loss either way :(
The way her comb folds over indicates she could be a Leghorn cross. There is also the Frosted White Legbar but those lay blue eggs. So since you do not know her history I am thinking probably a Leghorn X then, thus explaining the comb flop, leg color but lays a light brown egg
Id say pullet since you also arent hearing crowing. No evidence of a saddle feathering for the cockerel either. I have had pullets take awhile to start laying. I think Cochin X with something with a beard. I see a slight muff and colored legs i think? Maybe Easter egger in there somewhere?
Lock them in a little longer, til say late afternoon, then let them out to forage and watch to see if she runs off to her special place. You might find her eggs
If you aren't sure what is going on with them I would give a call up to your local post office. 99% of the time they are held at the post office. Good luck and hope your babies arrived safe and sound :)
I have had more chicks in less space. The biggest thing is just to keep on top of the bedding staying clean. If it was a heat lamp it might be much as it doesnt allow for room to escape extra heat but your type of heat plate should be fine. Be sure to show us your babies when you get them!
I have been raising chicks for the last 20 years. I have bought from a lot of hatcheries as well as buying from Tractor Supply. I currently work for Meyer Hatchery as a remote customer service rep. I will be unbiased, I like it when TSC sells chicks that are feathered out fully for . 50...
aww thank you for sharing. The Silver Spangled Appenzellers sure have a curious personality. I love their hair! Live in florida and by a body of water? those are some lucky girls! It is cold up here in the North :)
Glad to hear your experience with us was great :) How are your chicks doing? Still doing well? I love seeing pictures of our chicks as they get older and always enjoy knowing how they do outside of the initial few days after arriving to their new homes.

I think there is a chance of it being a cockerel by how upright the stance is and possible very early beginnings of saddle feathers. I would love to be wrong though and I could be since the comb is not very pronounced yet, but definitely would find it a little difficult to be sure of a pullet...
Awww Thank you !
Good luck on finding some eggs. :) they are definitely a neat breed of bantam. I am someone who loves having an array of colors in my flock and also in my hands when I gather eggs. :)
While you did not have a great experience with us, I do hope you do consider us again in the future. We do not have the Easter Egger Bantams available again until 2020. I personally have some of our EE Bantams and one of them even lays a super neat colored blue egg. So while I do work for...
