Yes, you can buy it at any farm store. It’s used in horse stalls. It keeps down flies and I use it in the hen house under the roost. Super easy clean up.
I'm guessing they're around 2 months old, but I'm not certain. A friend of a cousin of a friend got them for her kids and then when they weren't cute fluffy chicks any more didn't want them so I took them. She said she got them as hens from the feed store, but I know 100% doesn't always happen.
Good morning! I’ve recently acquired some unwanted chickens and I’m curious on the breeds and if I’ll have gens or roosters. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
No, I'm not sure that it's a tumor and not an impacted crop except she has had a larger crop area than the other chickens for at least 6 months and it's very hard.
Is an impacted crop sort of squishy?
It definitely sounds like she either doesn't have enough calcium or she's not absorbing it...
Last week this chicken started laying eggs again - but with a twist. She must be laying at night or early in the morning because I'm finding them in the morning in the poop tray and the shells are a bit thin because the eggs are broken. There's quite a bit of sweet pdz in the tray so it's not...
I think we're going on a couple of months, but I don't expect she can be saved. She's not suffering though, so I guess we'll just stay the course for now unless that changes.
So it seems that my almost 2 year old SLW probably has a tumor in her crop. She looks normal, is eating fine, although she isn't running all over the yard, she's still fairly active. She stopped laying eggs when she started to molt and hasn't laid since. I gave her a bath yesterday and her vent...
Hi Becky,
Thank you and welcome to the forum. I'm happy you enjoy the thread.
Let's see... would I change anything? Maybe I would insulate it, and I didn't. But, maybe not because I'm really not having any trouble with frost or freezing and last winter was terrible.
I did NOT add any of the...

Has anyone else tried fishing line to deter hawks? I've strung fishing line between trees and the 2nd floor deck around my yard. So far so good but I guess I won't really know if it's doing the trick unless I see one avoid...
Oh I've started referring to my chickens as viscous little monsters. Last week they caught a bird in the yard and tore it apart like the wishbone at Thanksgiving.
I'll share an update. I got my door last fall and initially I had a few issues, but things seem to be stable now for many months. Ultimately loosening the screws just a hair or perhaps it was just a battery replacement, but the only trouble I have now is when the hens just decide to sleep...
Kevin the Free Agent Peacock made the news:

But, I guess his feelings were very hurt by Oscar's bark because he has not returned. Might be for the best. He cawed one time and was VERY loud. I'm...
Well, he does seem to fit right in. I do worry a bit about disease or pests... but, sometimes wildlife just happens.
We did call Animal Control, but they said they don't do anything about it. They just make a note in case someone calls to say they're missing a peacock then they'll give them...
He's definitely male. He's been hanging out in the coop (which is NOT big enough for him) all day. The girls are mostly in the yard getting rained on, and he's sitting on their perch with his huge tail just taking up all the space. He's dry, the hens are all wet.
Thanks, I think. I'd like him to hang around and hopefully he will and all will go well. He likes sitting on the roost in my chicken's run.
It also seems like his poop is MUCH smaller so that's a bonus!
Do they eat much? And is chicken feed ok for him?
