Mine are killing my solid green hosta also. They are not touching the variegated ones though. May pour some white paint on my green ones to see if I can fool them.
Thanks, I read that thread and it really didn't say anything about free shipping plus it's from 2011 so I would expect it may have changed since then. By far it is the cheapest I have found for meat birds if it is free shipping......
Thinking about ordering some chicks this spring and did a quick price comparison of the big hatcheries online. Looked up 25 Cornish X's to get prices and shipping costs. I found Hoover to be the cheapest per bird at $1.85 and they claim from their website that shipping is free!
Is this...
I have been gone for about seven years and decided to get back into chickens. Bought seven year old RR hens. Some guy near me gets old breeding stock from a major hatchery. I guess they only use the same hens for six months then get rid of them. This guy buys them by the hundreds and resells...
Thanks, I'll keep you in mind. Usually there is a lot of people around here trying to get rid of roosters, of course that is when I don't need one........
Thanks again,
Eric
Greetings all!
I have one BR hen who is going on her second year with me and my family. She is a very lucky hen as she is the last one out of 25 I started with almost two years ago. I had a mink and raccoon problem that ended up wiping out my entire group except for ole Berta who has been...

If a rooster does his job with a hen on day 1, about how many days will her eggs be fertile? I think I've have read here somewhere that it is multiple days. Now, if you have a...
I happened to get my chicks New Year's Eve.....
Actually, I got them about 9 months ago from Meyers. I ordered 25 straight run brown egg layers which ended up being all pullets. Anyone want some eggs??? WR's, RR's, BA's, BR's and naked necks.
Oh, here's the original:
I have one like that, even though mine looks deeper than the one in the picture. I added a PC fan to mine to help move the air and it seems to work better. The fan seems to help keep the temperature more consistent.
The last hatch I did was last summer during our hottest months. I kept the...
I installed my PC fan to blow down from the lid. I also installed a square piece of tin about 2 inches below the blades to deflect the air to the sides of the bator and not blow directly down. I don't know if the tin makes that much difference, but it made sense to me at the time of...
Sounds like you have experience with both. So the rangers are similar to Cornish X's size but are more active and attain proper weight a little bit slower. The red and black broilers are more active than the Cornish x, but tend to be slower growing, not as heavy and less economical. Am I on...
