    What colors would these bantam Cochin hens fall under?

    They look wheaten. Red is genetically wheaten with some other modifiers so they should work nicely for your project. They also might be black tailed buff: Wheaten with the Ginger gene. This works too because red also needs the Ginger gene.

    Once in a blue moon I remember that watercolor pencils are an option that's available to me... For extravagant tail I did the red golden pheasant which is one of the prettiest birds ever in my opinion.
