My duck gave up brooding but the hen is still on the nest. I candled the seven eggs today. The flashlight wasn't as bright as I'd hoped it'd be, and I didn't get any pictures... but three were mostly dark inside except when the light was angled in the air cell... My guess is around 10 days for...
I wish I'd gotten a silkie because I've been pinning for a broody hen since last year. Of course broody's seem to notice when they're no longer wanted so every time I go to look for a silkie mine would tease me with a day or two of hissing. I must have put on a convincing act though because now...
I thought it'd be cute to make a little story book about them. Accidentally messed up the black pattern on my duck's face but oh well. I'm hoping most of the story will go "and they sat, and sat, and sat." I figure if I spend all my time at the computer drawing them I won't be spending that...
I still have Shirley but she's in the yard these days and the empty greenhouse at night. No bathtub chickens this year, haha. She's still the best chicken ever.
Hi! Haven't been here in ages, life has been busy and I've been trying to keep my flock at a low number haha. I have a fun story to share now so I thought I'd drop in.
A hen and a duck went broody on the same nest, and they're still sitting together after I moved them into a large dog crate...
It's a nice day today, such a shame the flock has to stay inside because my aussie is in heat so the neighbor dogs keep hanging around. I sat in front of the door for a while and tossed them some goodies to scratch around for. I took the pictures with my ipad, the one of the chickens was taken...
Lisa - None of my birds are laying right now, probably because I don't have a light for the coop... Something I've been meaning to get around to correcting... A rogue rabbits chewed through the last cord, and I've been so wrapped up with rewriting my novel that I keep forgetting about it on the...
I'd done it a time or two when I was keeping a pet hen in the house. ;) It's a bit tricky, but I found if I wrapped her very loosely in a towel she'd just lay there and be content to let me snuggle long enough to doze off. I could calmly tuck her away in her own bed when I felt like I was really...
All this talk of hatching and chicks is making me see things. I think one of my SFH hens is broody. I'm suppose to be cutting down on the flock, not trying to add more... But I could probably claim she stole the eggs if a few happen to find their way under her. Haha
Pretty sure it'll be a roo. Crested
Even the older SFH roo I have looked less boyish than this one.
(Black, kind of girly looking to me, at least compared with the others.)
(Blue, also more girly looking to me.)
