I’ve got two roosters the same age, one has been crowing / breeding over a month where as his sibling hasn’t made a peep, nor showed any interest in the hens.
He hasn’t developed his comb/waddle quite like the other but otherwise they are same size.
Is this common or is he having a gender...
Need recommendations for which type of blu kote applicator to get? Currently my primary use is to mark quail for breeders and medical treatment as required.
The stuff I see on the forum reminds me of Prussian Blue machinist dye, one drop of that stuff can paint a school bus.
Prefer not to look...
Anyone ever maxed out the incubator with 120 eggs? I got a new hova bator 1588 and filled it up, but now I’m wondering if it will handle them should the hatch rate be high.
I have a LG that I could move some to at lock down but have had fits trying to control humidity with it.
Wow, thanks that’s a powerful thread. Can’t believe a ain’t run across it before.
I actually bought that stc 1000 and might be what I go with. Was trying to clean it up and not have it it looking like a time traveling Delorean
I really do like that 12 volt controller/heater/fan option you...
I’ve read a lot that the LG (knob type) was notorious for failing and cooking hatch. For redundancy I had installed a brooder temp controller on the incubator with the off set point at 103 so if it did fail “ON” I might could save the hatch. Early in the incubation the thermostat did just that...
Wondering if anyone has ever replaced the little giant knob thermostat with a wafer type as in the Hovabator?
My concern is with the difference in wattage of the heating element, I would presume since the LG has a 40 Watt heating element it most likely would swing the temperature much more...
We live rural Arkansas, pretty much at end of the road but have neighbors that can see everything.
I built the auto door myself. So far the only issue I’ve had is when I’ve screwed up the program ie: leaving in in manual. ( my eyesight ain’t what it used to be) I even added a battery backup...
We bought this old farm with 30 acres and the coop looked really secure, in the last 2 years we had only lost one bird a couple months before we went on vacation. It was lost in a temporary pen I had made to separate two roosters from the pack. He just disappeared, no feathers or any...
When coons attack chickens in coop do they eat everything? All I found was a single foot.
There wasn’t a whole lot of feathers/blood and no carcass was found.
Went on vacation couple weeks and apparently they had been coordinating their attack. I Put up a camera to confirm plus found where...
I've Got 2 hens that have been broody, one first time mean mama about 3-4 weeks and a bantham second time mama 2-3 weeks sitting on ceramic eggs.
Right after dark I slipped in little bit under the 2nd time mama and she sucked it right under her.
Got another chick and put under meanie, she was...
It’s been an adventure.....So far it’s been resiliant. I had to basically do 90% of the hatch. It’s colored like one of the barred rocks but is really small compared to all others.
It took 3 rounds of pulling it out and wiping it off to get the goo off so it could open its eyes, move its neck...
So far I’ve got 8 healthy chicks and one that I’m thinking is not gonna make it. I had locked down 4 eggs in a second incubator two hatched on day 20 one piped but had that glue looking stuff at the pip spot and didn’t make it.
The other looked like was to hatch at anytime but after 36 hours I...
I was aiming for barred rocks, have a large well mannered hen that lays large off colored eggs. My intent was to collect them from her rotating them until one hen went broody, so I did that for 4 months! In mean time i Ran across a 2 used little giant Bators, I added a fan to them.
The day I...
My wife called freaking out wanting to open the incubator, apparently I’ve got two hatched out already.
Saw 4 total had pipped this am before leaving for work.
I think day 21 is Thursday so worried I had temp too warm.
