post your chicken coop pictures here!

This is our coop- we built it two years ago. We have three Wyandotte's that are two years old and just put the five week old Buff Orpington's in the run a few nights ago. We have the section under the coop barricaded so the older hens can see the chickies but not get at them. The chickies were...

    Moving out to coop ?'s

Our chickens are one month old. We have had them inside the house in the brooder. They have gone outside a few times on warm days. Well, we are getting our house ready to put on the market and don't want them in the house for showings, so we moved them out to the coop tonight. We were able to...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Well the 35 gallon rubber made tote brooder lasted about a week and half! We ended up setting up an x-pen we have for the dogs, lining it with cardboard, putting it in a base for the xpen that we had made for when the dogs were puppies, and using this for a brooder. We had made a nice brooder...

Help! Husband brought home chicks and I don't know what they are!

I am by NO means an expert. Could they be Buff Orpington's? We just got some almost three weeks ago and they look similar.

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

That's a good size for the first few weeks but they will soon outgrow that size brooder. Maybe a bigger tote as they get bigger or a metal watering trowel (like they have the chicks in at tractor supply) would work when they get bigger.

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Tis the season! Getting ready to put the brooder together. Last year in was in the house in one of the spare bedrooms- never again! The dust was aweful! This year it is going in the basement. We are using the same brooder as last year.

Molting (in winter??) or being pecked at??

We have the heatlamp and water warmer set to come on at 35 degrees and it automatically turns off. We initially only heated the water but because it was getting so cold last winter we added them lamp when it got below 20. We have lost three girls since last winter (neighbors dog, one just...

Molting (in winter??) or being pecked at??

It has been chilly here in Southeast NH so we put a heat lamp in the coop to offset those really chilly night (please don't judge). One of our three girls is all of a sudden molting or she is being pecked at by the other two. They are mainly in the coop all day as it is so cold so I wouldn't be...

    winter help

This will be our girls second winter in NH. We started with six and lost three over the spring/summer. I hate using a heat lamp but we had some pretty cold nights last winter so used it a few times. This winter, now that we are down to three hens, I may use the heat lamp more. Last winer we got...

Sun Death of Year Old Hen

I just found one of my silver Wyandotte's dead with n apparent reason for death. She had been in the mulch with the other girls earlier today giving themselves dirt baths and all was fine. I just went to round them up as hubby was mowing the lawn, and there she was in the mulch looking like she...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

It was -8 when I checked on the ladies this morning and I had four eggs! Only two didn't lay- one is broody so I'm assuming she is the one that didn't lay today.

What treat did your chickies get today?

I made a 'suet block' out of coconut oil, uncooked oatmeal, cracked corn, raisins, and meal worms and just gave it to the ladies. It's only gotten up to 3 degrees F today so we closed the door to the run and are keeping them in today. I sprinkled part of the block around the bedding in the coop...

What would you do, water freezing?

My husband just made a 'water heater' to keep in the coop. The base is a patio brick. It has a light fixture that is attaches with construction adhesive to the patio paver. Surrounding the light fixture is half of a cement block, also attached to the patio paver with construction adhesive. We...

    Broody Hen Thread!

I think I have a broody hen, but we have no roosters so she isn't going to hatch anything. She spent a couple days in a nest box, and she did go out and eat as I took her out of the nest box myself a few times. She is not a happy girl when I take her out! So, we put her in a dog crate with the...

    Is my hen broody?

I think I have a broody hen :(. We don't have roosters so she's not going hatch anything. She has been in one of the egg boxes all day yesterday and all night last night (as far as I know). She was in the box all day today, with no egg. I finally scooped her up and put her outside the coop to...

post your chicken coop pictures here!

I'm not sure if I've posted pics of the inside of my coop yet, so I'm posting some. We only have ventilation on two sides and I'm wondering if this is enough. It's at the top, on the east and west facing sides. We do the deep litter method and due to the cold the Windows have been closed and it...
