Lol! Frost bitten combs make hens not lay?! Not true...and I've raised chickens my whole life;) A comb doesn't decide if a hen lays or not....haven't had many hens get frostbitten combs though. Agree with good ventilation is key!
They like enclosed nest boxes. They are cavity nesters, so if you convert those with just a small opening for them to get in, they may use them if that's the only option they have. If they don't find a good nest site, they may lay eggs wherever on the ground and not set them.
Gave them a "bath". They did enjoy it, but not deep enough to swim. My injured one can use her left leg fine, it's her right leg that has issues...she can use the upper leg, but the bottom half doesn't really work. I can't feel a break or tendon slip at the joint, so I don't know what to do for her.
I took my babies away last year. I worried that the other ducks would hurt them. The drakes are being territorial around their mates nesting sites, so I worried they'd get trampled or something. If it was me, I'd separate mommy and ducklings from the rest to keep them safe.
I am a first time proud new owner of Sebastopol goslings! :) I received them from an angel of a friend. They will be colored, but I'll have to wait to figure out exactly what color they'll be. One of them has a hurt leg I think it got from shipping...she is getting proper niacin along with...
Sorry...didn't see it. I had my younger hen start laying eggs in my other hens nest. It's called nest dumping. I had to take out 7 eggs so they'd fit in the nest ok. After my older hen started setting, the younger started laying in another box of her own thankfully.
Oh, I thought you were getting a new hatchling. I don't know how it'll do at that age. Just be patient when it comes to making it "like" you. They freak out really easy. It'll learn to trust you. Mine come running when I bring treats :) They won't let me touch them, but when I walk around the...
Sorry about your sick duck :( The guy with the mandarins probably wants you to get at least 2 ducklings because they do so much better with a buddy. I did have an "only" hatch a week before another batch last year. BUT he had a chicken chick buddy I put in with it so it would learn how to eat...
Hi, I'm sorry if you all get this question a lot...I've been searching but haven't found my answer yet.
I received two 3 day old sebastopol goslings in the mail. There are my first geese (I do raise various ducks) They were eating and drinking fine the first day. They have electrolytes with...
