Looking to get a few Cobbs in again for Christmas, a little bit put off this time though as I never made any profit last time when I did it about 3 years ago and it was just a huge waist of time to be honest. I was just feeding them on fattening pellets, lost a few a long the way and by the time...
If he was really that tired of them, And if I were you, I would have had them. I can sell RIR hens all day at £10 a piece. Thats nearly £300! lol
To answer your questions,
Expense. Theres plenty of places, At least round here that will sell you corn cheaper than a pet store, Its just knowing...
I live in England, at let me tell you its already freezing here & raining here! (Then again whats new?!)
I started getting ready for the winter today. Over the last couple of days my runs have been like a mud bath thanks to the rain. Luckily I got my hands on some green liner and covered the run...
So I've gotten myself a tin shed. Right now Im keeping tools, straw and my chicken feed in it, however I'm Hoping to make it into a hen house for my chickens sometime soon before the winter settles in so they have more room. I've gotten it up & cemented in but theres one problem, It has a flat...
I know how to do it, But I cant be doing that to an animal when its not under an anaesthetic of some kind. I never knew that about the growth rate though! And I think its also illegal here in the UK. :L
Best way that, Sharing is caring. Too bad today's world isn't quite like that. But yeah theres no need to charge, especially for stuff you dont need. I give away all the roosters I could to save me the guilt of killing too many, at the same time I wouldn't want them treat poorly, But couldn't...
Have yet to see a thread like this so I decided to make one just for fun, and to get to know about others on the forum.
So, Do you have any other hobbies, Maybe any other interests apart from chickens?
Are any of you devoted enough to livestock to get a poultry related tattoo? Would you ever...
Cheers for the comments of support guys-
Just an update, Thankfully we got mostly hens, and most of the roosters I got went, Hopefully for the right reasons. Sadly a couple were dispatched humanly and given to the ferrets which I knew would happen.
@Lovinchicks, I've hatched Welsummers. Very...
I didn't put in the ad that I'm going to kill and feed the chicks to my ferrets. I just stated on this thread that any left over will be fed to the ferrets. I've obviously upset a few people on this thread, That isn't what I plan to do. I refuse to keep the roosters for the simple fact is I...
What meat chickens are you thinking of getting? Will you be in a hurry to fatten them up? See if you want to fatten them quick its best to get some Cobbs, Stick them in a smallish shed and feed them on fatteners pellets, They'll fly up. Where'as if you free range them it'll take 5 times longer...
Thanks for the replies, I cant reply individually because that'd be too much trouble. I've read all of them though and I've decided to put them on the craigslist to give them a chance of life, I also added on the add the people wanting them will need to pick them up within 24 hours of them...
Thats great, And yes they do taste a lot better. I may keep a couple back to raise and eat, But not all, I couldn't. Too much to raise as stated.
I have ferrets and dogs myself, I could dispose of the dead chicks easily, and it'd be cheaper for me. Problem for me is I'd feel terrible killing the...
