Love the pool area! I think it all looks really great. And if the grass/dirt doesn’t work out or you end up not liking it you can always add the rock you wanted to.
Has is been working out better having them in there instead of the tote?
Just dirt, works great when it’s dry. Just rake it out when needed.
But….. when it’s wet it can be a muddy mess. Definitely not my first choice but obviously not bad enough for me to change it.
We redid our coop and run this year, I’m hoping with a different roof and pitch it will be better...
The curled feather means male.
Also their quack is different, male vs female. So the other one either hasn’t got its drake feather yet or it’s quack yet. How old are they?
Do you have a candling light? You can even just use a flashlight and candle the eggs real quick when she’s off.
You can then either remove the bad ones or mark them so you know when checking again which are which.
At 35 days they should have hatched by now but I would check before just...
You probably won’t want a run door yet (or atleast have a way to close it off) until they’re fully feathered. But eventually having one will be nice! I think they’ll really enjoy having a 4 wall enclosure!
I think what you’ve got is great so far, keep updating as you go!
that looks good! Looks like you have some venting up top? And are those windows that open on the front doors?
Are you going to cut a whole in the back or make some kind of door so they can access the run?
And the babes are adorable 😍
I don’t know that I’m fully understanding your plan. When you describe it I’m kind of picturing like a horse shed, basically a shed with only 3 walls. Is that what you’re going for? I personally would provide more protection.
What you’ve got so far looks like a great run! But they definitely...
We just torn down our old coop and replaced it with a new one so I don’t have photos of the actual set up but I still have the piece of plywood I bought and the hardware that I can show you
So I got a piece of plywood to fit and found these things at ace, I have no clue what they’re called 🤣...
Ducks are hard to keep in a typical brooder cause they get so big so fast! I usually do a brooder for the first couple days and then as long as weather permits (your weather temps sound good to me) I divide my coop in two and have the babies on one side still with their heat until everyone is...
I just did this to my new coop and did lots of research as far as the “best” for the price.
This is not meant for painted wood or to paint over. It’s meant for natural wood or stain.
I used it over natural wood, no stain or anything. I did one coat inside and out and it was super easy to...
The two kissing are so cute!!
If you want “social” ducks start now! I can always tell a difference with ducklings that were held/handled, fed from our hands and spent lots of time near us vs. ducklings we didn’t do that with as much. As adults the ones who we didn’t do that with won’t even eat...
I appreciate everyone’s quick and helpful replies!
Next thing I need some help with is a ramp, I was hoping to not have a ramp on this coop but I wanted it off the ground (for wet/weather purposes) so it’s about 4”-5” high so we need a ramp. Our old one we built an extra wide wood ramp with a...
A picture would be awesome and thanks for the answer, that is exactly what I was looking for!
It’s got 2 windows in it already and yes it’s above their heads and I am covering with hardware cloth.
