Yes. Silica dust, similar to DE, but more fine and faster acting. Must wear a mask. The great thing about it is that it can be mixed in water and sprayed and still work the same. So that could be an option. Mixing with water helps prevent the huge dust clouds when applying as well.
I struggled with mites this year. There is a difference between northern fowl mites (these live their full life cycle on the birds) and red mites (feed on the bird usually at night and live in cracks/crevices in the coop during the day). I had red mites (it sounds like you do as well). I...
So, I originally thought the first egg was for sure developing (huge blood spot one) and I tried to dissect it a bit. Still not 100% but it really looked like a day 5/6 embryo development. I couldn’t necessarily identify an “eye” but it has me wondering. None of the 3 eggs had a blood ring like...
Do you mean in the way of not being candled and sent that way? I’m not sure. I’ve never received any this way before.. so, that’s also part of the reason I’m asking. I sell eggs for eating and candle every egg before packing it up checking for cracks and stuff.. I have received shipped eggs...
Hello!! I received an order of hatching eggs via the mail. I hatch a lot of my own birds, and have hatched some shipped eggs as well, so I’m pretty familiar with candling, checking for detached air cells, etc. After receiving this batch of eggs, I candled them and noticed “something” inside 1...
I was not able to remove the blockage. The swelling completely closed her eye and she seemed miserable, so sadly, this hen was humanely euthanized. I could not afford the $600 vet surgery estimate.
I’m not sure. It doesn’t appear that way as the eye does look severely damaged. But I will finish off the 7 full days baytril for him. How much longer should I ointment his eye do you think? Friday evening will be 7 full days baytril. Thanks!
Hi Wyorp! Back with an update! Today is the first day he’s been able to open his eye on his own 🥰 the eyeball itself is not pretty, but so much improvement has been made. He’s still in great spirits and has become quite sweet and used to his daily treatments. Just happy he’s able to open and...
I live in LA. The last time I took a chicken to the vet, the exam fee is $100 for them yo say “yeah we should sedate and do this this and this… estimate $500+”
So unfortunately, no. 😒
Hi Wyorp. I’m back with an update and looking for more ideas!
hi Wyorp. I’m back with an update and looking for more ideas to help my boy. Updated photos from this morning are attached. The swelling is significantly reduced. He’s been on baytril 3 days, and meloxicam. My issue now is that...
Old thread!! But hoping to get a response! What if you can’t get Columbian? Say Columbian isn’t a standard for the breed and the created Columbian people have made are crappy with incorrect combs etc.
could you start with Mottled and Solid Buff? Thanks!
I started him on doxycycline a few days ago, just in case this was respiratory related, but he has no respiratory issues at all and neither do any flock mates, but I thought I would try it in case, but I have baytril and can switch to that without issue. Yes, he’s a pet ❤️❤️
Nothing at all in...
Hi Wyorp. I’m back for more guidance/suggestions. My boy isn’t getting better. I’ve been flushing with saline and applying Terramycin 2x/day. Last night, more chunky puss was removed but not easily. I removed as much as I can, but I’m not very familiar with the eye parts and it appears as though...
As usual, you’re polite, kind and helpful. I truly appreciate your responses and helpfulness in my stressful situations. May the new year bring you nothing but joy and happiness to continue spreading to others. Thank you.
The swelling today is significantly reduced. I was able to remove some stray strands/chunks of more puss this morning that I didn’t get yesterday. The eye ball does appear to be there, inside, however it’s not looking great. Is there a way to “melt” Terramycin ointment to be able to get it into...
I did it! I got the puss out, flushed the eye, filled it with Terramycin!! What are the chances it’ll come back? Photo of puss ball below, if interested.
