Hi all!
I'm wondering if any of you can help me out.
We got 5 hens in February to start our backyard flock. My daughter's turned out to be a roo. I promised her that I would find her another hen to replace the roos but I am having some difficulty finding anyone around me (Portage area)...
Today for a hot weather treat, at noon I put their fermented feed dinner in the fridge so they clot cold food late afternoon. Hopefully it will help cool them off a little.
I would respectfully disagree.
After trying fermented feed, seeing my chickens eat less, thus reducing my feed bill, in addition to the droppings having virtually no smell...seems like a win-win to me. Big deal if it takes a tiny bit more time. If you are looking to maximize you time, don't...
Crossing my fingers that someone can help me out...
I've got an 11 week old Rhode Island Red rooster that i need to find a home for. I can't have roos in the city. He is one of my 5 chicks who was mis-sexed at the hatchery. He has beautiful green tail feathers so I'm guessing he will grow...
I'm having a problem I'm helping someone can offer some solution to.
I have about a million flies hanging around my coop and run.
Here's some background info:
I have been feeeding FF to my five 10 week old girls since they were born. I feed then once in the morning and once in the late...
Ugh...my dogs also loves fermented feed!
I wonder....I have read on here some people add cayenne pepper to their FF to keep 'critters' from eating the feed. I wonder if this would deter a dog also??
Ugh...I threw out some rotten watermelon (sat on the counter cut up for about 4 days) and my 6 week olds found it and ate it before I knew what had happened.
I'm really hoping they don't get sick!
I'm a chicken newbie and this might be totally the wrong thing to do but....my babies also had a hard time after it got dark the first few nights in the coop. I put a solar light (like that line sidewalks) in there and that little bit of light helped greatly. Can chickens be afraid of the...
Ugh...just found out that one of my 5 week old hens is actually a cockerel. What a bummer! I will call Abendroth's tomorrow - does anyone know if they will give me a replacement?
I guess I have a 5 week old RIR cockerel if anyone is interested in him. I live in the city and can't keep him.
Teach me...how could you tell he was a cockerel?
I noticed how big and red his comb is but is there anything else about him that tipped you off?
Thanks!
