Lol. Yes, you will either need to re home one or both of them or get at least 12 more hens, or else the roosters will be at the one hen and could do some damage.
Thanks to both of you. They have been separated since it happened, and the female is actually in my barn now while they are on vacation. The eggs are in the incubator. I guess it's just wait and see now.
You can tell by their hackle and saddle feathers, they are the ones on their back and neck. They are more pointed and shiny. Their combs on top of their heads are large and their wattles, hanging down are large. I can't see their tail feathers, but on roos they are very showy and usually flow...
It's saying the video doesn't exist. Can you just post a picture of all three of them? How old are they? If they are legit crowing, then chances are that they are roos. I would put up a photo though, most on here can tell by sight depending on age.
Our chickens will never lay in the nesting boxes provided for them lol. I think it's an act of defiance. They will lay in the hay bin, or under the barn, or in a corner in the coop. So, we just dug up some old milk crates and put hay in them instead of shavings and put them in the corner...
I have a friend who has 3 ducks, two drakes and the one female. The female had been sitting on her eggs and one day the two drakes attacked her to almost the point of death. My friend is giving me her eggs to incubate because they only have a week left and she is leaving for vacation today. A...
We had a hen disappear a few weeks ago(3 to be exact ;) ) and then emerge from under the barn the other day with 10! new chicks with her. We have had many hens go broody before, but they never hatched more then 4 at a time. Is this an abnormal amount? She looks a little silly trying to sit on...
Call your town hall or animal control depending on how big your town is. Explain the problem. Write down dates, times, examples. Keep a log of when/how often it happens. Take pictures. Document, document. Call and call again until it stops happening and/or is taken care of. Most states...
The two red bourbons are the yellow ones with the reddish brown feathers on their backs. The two bronze are the all yellow ones I'm fairly certain. I can't really see the other ones, but narrangansett are usually a dark brown as poults. I don't one what your first two are. As far as sexing...
I've used apple cider vinegar before, but I find honey to work better. It's nature's medicine :) I usually just use about a teaspoon in a dropper or a spoon right down the throat every couple of hours. And, like I said before, keep her in a dark quiet place until she gets better or she will...
Is sour crop a possibility? Does she seem to be standing almost upright with her back kind of arched? You could pick her up and feel her crop, it would feel soft and squishy- esp. in the morning, or you might even be able to see it, like she swallowed a golf ball. If so, put her somewhere...
I currently have some 8 week old bantams that are about the size of my two fists put together, so no- I don't think they are too small. Two of those w/ the masks look like OEG to me, but they move so quickly it's hard to tell.
I have one EXACTLY like her that I got from the Bantam bin at TSC. Search for Bantam Bingo and you'll find my post. She is for sure a D'Uccle. Mine is a pullet and her name is Hope. As far as sex, I'm not great at that- but at 4 weeks old that seems like a big comb to me.
I'd keep them away from the rest of your flock for about 2 weeks, or longer if the roo hasn't healed up yet. Other than that, it sounds as though you are doing things right, Is the hen he's with still pecking at him? Chicken jail.... I like that!
Where in NH are you located?
We have been looking for a breeding pair of Marans high and low- I sadly, do not think we can make the claremont swap on Sat.
Sounds perfect to me! Just make sure you run the chicken wire all the way around if you have weasels... they can get through the smallest holes(smaller than you think!) and kill chickens just for the fun of it.
