Thanks guys. I'm 98% positive I know who is laying the egg. I have her separated today while she lays. She was in the nest box when I checked a bit ago and was just singing the egg song, so I went to check and she hadn't laid yet. Silly girl.
I love my hens and take good care of them, but at...
I have a hen that is laying odd eggs. I've narrowed it down to one of two of my RIRs. They are ~1.5 years, eat 16% layer pellet, have access to oyster shell, and free range most of the day. Other than being odd the shell in hard and in good shape.
It started about a month and a half ago when I...
Today's egg. I have it narrowed down to two of our RIRs, but I'm about 90% sure I know which one. I'm going to separate them tomorrow, putting the one I think it is in a separate pen.
That is one reason I really want to work with them! They are too beautiful to not have people fighting for them!
Awesome, thanks! I have a digital food scale that I use to weigh my rats and snakes, but I don't think it can weigh a bunny. I was looking at infant scales on Amazon, but your idea...
It's been going on for several weeks now with the egg getting longer and longer. The shells are strong, they have access to oyster shells, they are fed 16% layer pellets, and free range most of the day.
I have one hen who is laying really odd eggs. The shell isn't smooth and it is getting longer and more ovular. It's to the point the egg doesn't fit right in a carton anymore. I'm not sure which hen is laying it, we have three RIRs and one BR that lay brown eggs.
Annnnd this is why I don't care for lops... :lau In all honesty, lops have just never been my thing. I can't even remember now what kind of lop we had as kids. We got him from a neighbor who inherited him when her uncle was killed. He was a show rabbit and had won a lot of ribbons. :confused...
I didn't see any minnies/dwarfs there, but I guess that doesn't mean anything. He's about the same size as the girls, maybe a bit bigger. I was told they were born the beginning of February. I need to get a scale so I can weigh them.
I really want Cayuga! They are so beautiful. Long story, but our duck Ethel (Pekin) bonded to my goose Lucy. They have always preferred each other's company to that of their own spiecies. We ended up culling the other ducks and geese but Lucy and Ethel were just inseparable. Well...
Sorry, that is what I said. I have a terrible head cold and I'm all druged up on cold medication. You can't believe anything I say. I don't even know what I'm saying. The lopy one does look lopy. I'll get a better picture tomorrow. I'm goodo with no lop though. We had a lop when I was...
