You need a jersey giant hen. I've had a couple that were annoyingly broody. Like lock her out of the coop to free-range after getting the leather gloves out to not get bit while pulling her off the nest and she still walks around puffed up like a basketball all day broody. One of them gave her...
I thought I would give you all an update. We lost Chirp and Pato to an attack from the neighbor's cat but Quackster duckling 2 (renamed Lovey by my 5 year old) survived and we got it a couple new friends, Lucky (a Cayuga ducklet (she's quacking) and Sapphire(a blue sweedish). Since the post was...
Definitely out of hawk range. Maybe an eagle, but i know the smaller raptors like to pluck and eat there and there was no evidence of that. I don't know if eagles take and eat at home or pluck and eat on site. I was worried it might be a mountain lion or bobcat.
So, the ducks were freeranging out by the pond the other day. When I left around 4 to get my daughter from school there were 4 when I came back, there were 3. The biggest, a full grown female pekin, was missing. There was a single chunk of feathers on the hill headed back to the coop but no...
Freebie is my favorite. My boss thinks it needs its own facebook page lol.
Nugget is my husbands favorite just because of his size. He's just now a year old and 2ft 2in not including his comb. Sweet bird though.
...It actually seems to like the water. I regularly check it for mites and other parasites since it has a harder time keeping them off. So far so good *fingers crossed*.
Mine does seem to be a bit stunted but it's got a healthy weight. As far as flock dynamics go, mine manages well in a mixed...
A friend of mine raises Ayam Cemani and his wife's chickens got in and fouled his line so he gave me the mutts and I'm not a fan either. They are almost impossible to keep in anywhere and they want to fight everything, even the pullet has an attitude. Not my favorite breed by far.
I will always take the chance to show off my birds :D thank you for the opportunity. Here's a few of them.Freebie, my crossbeaked sizzle soaking up some attention. and showing that white chickens can camouflage too. Orca, my silver laced Wyandotte cockrell walking under Nugget, my Jersey Giant...
This is Batman, a easter egger that i was hoping was female. But now it looks like it has long saddle feathers. So far no comb development or roo posturing but i still wonder. Is she a he?
