If you can't get more feed for that long do you have anything else to feed them? Some people change over to layer feed around 18wks so personally I think they are old enough and will be just fine.
What I'd do is buy a bag of layer feed and mix that all together with the chick starter and corn...
Thanks! I'm making a trip to Walmart this evening for fly traps. I've been using the sticky tape ones and I think because the flies are hanging out so low to the ground that they are just pointless. I need something that will attract them.
I do have a bag of sweet PDZ but I was saving it for the poop board. I guess if I can't find anything else (thinking price and my location) then I'll give it a shot, thanks!
This might be creating an environment for insect reproduction and/or odor generator, nice wet poop in between rocks. Not sure what kind of rocks but....just a thought.
Good point. So far there is zero odor. The rocks are big, the run area is an extension of our driveway and unfortunately the...
So do you have an actual recommendation? The run is on rocks so every day I spray off the rocks to keep the poo under control. I mix the coop bedding every day and clean off the roosting bars. I pick up uneaten bits of food.
Great pics! I have two black sex links named Spock and Kirk :) one of my red sex links is named Mother Clucker because she can be a bit mean. I just love the fun names people come up with.
My girls are 14.5wks old and I decided today that I'm going to start checking the nesting boxes at least...
Sorry for any confusion. The flies and rain have nothing to do with each other. The flies have been a severe issue for weeks, the crazy rain storm was yesterday. We're actually in a bit of a drought.
I'm using one of my brothers dog kennels as our temporary run and his dog tore the heck out of the chain link so we had to spend time patching. It also has deer netting wrapped all around it for hawk attacks and it has also caught a snake. There is a good size gap between the door and post. I...
I seriously searched multiple times a day for months hoping and praying to find the "perfect" coop on Craigslist or one of the many "garage" sale time facebook groups in my area. It never ever happened. Thankfully we got a carpenter and had a 6'x8' (hugely tall) shed/coop thing built. I'd never...
I have no interest in going all out with our birds but my daughter will be in 4-H or FFA in years to come and then we'll show some. Around here people really dont think of their birds as show birds though, and certainly not too many fancy breeds. We even saw a sex link in the fair last week, I...
At 4wks my pullets went into a dog crate brooder out in my garage. Depending on the day they either spent all or most of the day in their brooder or they spend some or all of the day in an enclosed small run I built. It's a lot hotter now and there is no way I could have left them in the garage...
