I'm happy to report that with repeated soaking in Epsom salt, spraying with veterycin, treating with iodine and wrapping with antibiotic ointment, what ever was on Delilah's toes has totally healed up.
Thank you Cyntia, we give her foot baths in warm water with Epsom salt every other day, daily if we can manage it. Then clean it with veterycin, iodine and wrap the toe with antibiotic ointment. She is good about not messing with it once it's wrapped and I think she is enjoying her peepycheep...
Hi Folks!
This thread has been very helpful. I'm afraid we may have found an early case of bumble foot. It's been terribly wet where we live and we moved our chicken tractor out of standing water over a week ago but with all the rain we are getting our entire yard is damp daily.
When I checked...
I think the best thing to do is keep an eye on it. The one chick I had a doubt with is totally fine. I watch them every chance I get now and I'm sure it was just the cecal poop, there were no other behavioral or physical signs of illness. I still see the cecal poop now and then but all of my...
:celebrate First, let me just say how much I love BYC because I know you all will humor me in my enthusiasm here. :D
My little flock is 5 weeks old today. They were brooded in their current coop and we moved them from the security of the back porch out to the backyard and attached the run on...
The chick is actually the biggest in my little flock. Eats and drinks regularly and acting totally fine. I've seen the poo that way before, but I'm not sure how often. I work so I spend the morning and evenings with them and noticed the wet stuff this weekend when cleaning the coop.
This thread is old but hopefully someone can you tell me if this type of poo is normal for a 4 week old chick? I live in south Florida and it's been terribly hot so the chicks are drinking lots of water:

I have 2 mutts, the female is 10 and although gentle with humans of all ages I would not trust her around my birds. She got a local duck by the wing when she was younger and if we didn't intervene I have no doubt she would have killed it. We also have a mixed male who's 3 but since I'm not sure...
I tried to get better pics of my 2 Gold Lace Wyandottes showing full bodies, combs and legs. know these are hard to sex, but you tell me what you think.
This is Puzzle, she/he is small with a stubby tail:
This is Penny, who will probably be called Linc if she/he is a roo, she/he seems huge...
Hello! I have 2 Black Australorps, 2 Gold Lace Wyandottes and 2 Plymouth Barred Rocks. My flock is only 4 weeks old but the Barred Rocks are by far the most adventurous and seem the most dominant. The Australorps come in second and the Wyandottes seem the most timid. I've had them all since they...
