Well good to know! The red breeds are the hardest for me. The 2 I posted for comparison are actually chicks I raised from Cackle. Was going by what the told me and sent me. Sure makes it hard to keep it all straight.
Here's a pic of one of my BOs. See the evenly color tail
Here's good comparison for production vs RI. The production is up front with white tail, RI laying down with black tail

You can tell productions from RI by the tail. Productions have white in their tail feathers, RIs have black. Your first pic is the wrong color for a BO.
I've only heard this about cedar as well. All I've ever used is pine and have had zero respiratory problems with my chicks. I'm also curious what type you are talking about. WOOD is a pretty broad term. The shavings choices we have available at our feed stores are pine or cedar.
My current batch. I found these pools for 5.00 and have a backup one ready to go with clean pine. Easy to just transfer them to new clean pool daily.
I always use pine shaving. It's light weight and easy to change out. The bag is huge and last a long time whereas sand is heavy and messy. I...
Just what I wanted to hear. They seem to be developing combs faster than other breeds I've raised so I wasnt. sure. To me, B's comb still seems big for this age but compared to A, it's small. I wasn't sure if I had 2 Roos developing at a different rate.
These are my first 2 d'uccles. I'm really starting to fall for this cute little breed! They are 4 weeks old today. I think A is a rooster and B is a hen when I compare them but Just have no idea with this breed.

Following. Very interesting. My whole last incubation died in lockdown. My humidity was all over the place. I set new eggs yesterday. I may try this method and see how it works for me.
I have all 3 of these breeds mixed in my flock with no issues. The BO's and silkies are so sweet. Love to be with people. Just know silkies can't be sexed till they are older so you risk a rooster and need to have a plan for that if you can't keep him.
I put colored Easter eggs in my nesting boxes and they worked great to teach the new pullets where to lay. I'm sure your little egg will be great. Our feed store sells wooden ones for 1.00 as well as another option to look for.
I'm sorry. I read that wrong. They are more like 20 weeks? Which is of age to lay now.
. I have found a random clutch hidden in bushes out of season. But knowing guinea, it was there a while. They are notorious for hiding eggs.
Guinea are seasonal layers. May-October on average. The eggs are like a cream white medium sized chicken egg but are more pointed than rounded. If they are already 6 weeks they will be old enough to lay buy the time season comes around. Their fertility is iffy the first year with new layers...
Yes Thankyou for the pictures!
I let them rest for a day and half before i put them in. If the first 24 hours counts as day zero, then I'm at the close of day 21. I have seen people count both ways when i was researching on here, it's a little more encouraging to take the day off at this...
