Very clever. I just wondered, do you pick each one up and put them in the boxcar? Same with returning, I assume. Is your garden also fenced in. Just wondering.
I totally enjoyed your birding story. Every flock, no matter how large or small has a story behind it. Thank you for sharing - great pictures too. Your birds are beautiful.
Just read the sneak-peek review on Amazon. Love it, will be getting it soon. I especially like the easy, breezy, but informative style of the writing - and a little humor when explaining technical things (like how chicken digestion works). Bravo to you and the effort to help all of us new...
I agree on everyting you said. I much more enjoy Mama raising her young. We have done it in the garage and after a few weeks, the dust, etc. gets old. Also, the other birds in the flock seem to accept the babies easier with Mama there watching out for them. There is always less drama.
I too have Swedish Flower Hens. Love the speckled girls. My Lucy had such a lovely crest. Inga, her sister is still with us, doing fine. Love the pictures.
Thanks for the wonderful article. We have a compost pile started behind the chicken pen with grass, leaves, food scraps. The chickens have access to it when we let them out with supervision. I agree, that worms and natural food are better than most feed in bags. Maybe I will start throwing stuff...
