Thank you so much for the second place vote!!! We couldn't have built our coop without the help from everyone at BYC. This is seriously the best place for information!
Ever since I jinxed our coop as being "finished", we acquired 3 silkie chicks and have started to build an expansion to double...
all 3 of our dogs are boys =(
one of the cats is a boy, both of my kids are boys.... I'm hoping the hens will even us out!
Didn't get any coop work done today. But I did go out and buy some metal roofing, a ridge cap, and red and white paint.
That was a looong trip! The lady at the paint...
I love this one! And your polish chick is adorable!
One question: How did you cut the metal roofing? It looks so even! We rented giant panel shears to do the roof on our run, but they were a huge pain to use and didn't cut straight. Now we're building an addition to our coop ans want to use...
This looks great! Glad you followed the #1 rule of building - make it bigger than you need!
Ohh how I miss that military discount!
I really hope you guys don't have raccoons or snakes in your area. We were too paranoid about those and used 1/2" welded hardware cloth for our run.
Silkies are...
We started on the expansion this weekend.... and we lost a silkie chick
I had gotten two silkies, a grey and a white. They came from a local couple who has a little farm.
A few days after we brought them home the grey one got constipated and couln't poop. She barely drank, could barely...
I like the bottom pic combo! If we had the extra money that's exactly what i'd want to do!
I think expanding out the back is the better option. The trouble with that is how to clean the current section after adding a new one. I'm thinking....what if we made the addition from ground up so I...
We had 4 chicks in a 4x4 insulated coop. And then I got 2 silkie chicks today because, you know... chicken math!
Now I need to figure out how to expand our coop to make more room. I'd like to spend under $200. Probably won't make the expansion insulated or even use shingles. I'm thinking of...
Here are a few pics of the landscaping i've done. I still need 11 more plants to fill the rest of the cinder blocks. Current plants are: Marigolds, Zinnias, Lavender, portulaca, sage, basil, dill, and mint. I forgot to check on here if any plants are bad for chickens, so if you think one of...
I'm getting two week old silkie chicks tomorrow (5/31). I currently have 4 8 week olds. 2 buff orps and 2 americaunas. How long should I wait before introducing them and moving them into the coop?
Also, my coop is 4ft x 4ft (insulated, so the actual sf is smaller) with a 4x10 run plus run...
Our breaker box is inside, and in the basement. I'm thinking we might have to just run an extension cord from the deck to the coop when we need electricity.
We just finished our coop this week and I'm very excited to show it off!
I just spent about 2 hours typing up the page for it so I hope it has everything you need =)

We started the build in late March and finished on Memorial day. The landscaping was done during the 2 days afterwards.
I will try to include as many of the step by step photos as possible as well as a couple of links for the products we used.
The small town we live in allows us to...
You guys did an amazing job! I'm sooo jealous of how big it is! And I really love the yellow on the inside. I think i'll do that whenever our coop needs new paint on the inside. It looks so peaceful.
Our chicks have been in the coop for only 4 days (counting today) and i'm thinking we might...
We are DONE!!!!!
Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day!
We have been very busy all weekend trying to finish the run and get the chicks outside. Today (5/25/15) was finally the day!
We framed the two sides of the run in the garage so I could paint in there. The rest of the building was...
