My dogs killed more chickens. >:'(

Also, has anyone had any luck with remote shock collars? I've been thinking about it and it seems like it might solve the problem of the rabbits being portable. I could still use the collar to remind them the rabbits are off limits. I do still plan on reinforcing our coop. If a predator were...

My dogs killed more chickens. >:'(

gander007: thanks! I did have a feeling that if we were to keep the dogs we'd have to reinforce the coop. Ol Grey Mare: I appreciate the answer. What you said makes sense. It's terrible inconvenient but if I want to keep my sweet dogs then it's worth it. The failed traing was self-done, we...

My dogs killed more chickens. >:'(

OK. here it is. I have two dogs, Lily age 7 and Luke age 2. Lily is a terrier mix, Luke is a bluetick beagle. They are both very much a part of our family. We had Lily before we even had kids. Luke is an absolute, snuggly darling. Both of them have begun killing chickens. The first time the...

    Tractor Supply is killing me!!!!

Dang it!! But they were so different from eachother when the feathers were growing in!! I thought for sure that regardless of what they were they couldn't possibly be the same breed. :/ tractor supply is horrible at labeling apparently! About three weeks ago I bought three "silver laced...

    Tractor Supply is killing me!!!!

I bough two chicks from Tractor Supply in Feb that were both supposed to be Colombian Rocks. Now, don't get me wrong, I love ALL chickens, but I am a little peeved that they are not what they were supposed to be. One of them turned out to be a silver laced wyandotte, but their feathers didn't...

    Breed and Gender please?

YAY!!! I'm thrilled. We just lost my husbands favorite chicken. She was a mystery egg from a friends farm hatched out by our broody hen. She looked like a gold laced wyandotte but had green feet and laid green eggs. She was beautiful. :'( He LOVES wyandottes, so this really is a happy...

    Spontaneous Dog attack??

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we raise rabbits for meat and he has been fed raw components of them. But I agree that it is the adrenaline and the thrill of the chase that they may get addicted to, not the meat. Though they do love raw meat!

    Spontaneous Dog attack??

Thanks so much for all of the great input! I truly appreciate it. I do not believe he really has a high drive, I think this was a "fun" motivated thing for him. He's never seemed truly aggressive except for a couple of food related incidents when we first got him. Those disappeared after a...

    Spontaneous Dog attack??

Thank you. I appreciate the insight. I definitely will never leave him unsupervised with the chickens again!!! That's just common sense. He is a really, really sweet dog. I will work with him and keep him away from the chickens for good!

    Spontaneous Dog attack??

We have a bluetick/beagle hound mix who is around a year old. We got him from the local animal shelter, where he was placed by his previous owner (a hunter) because he did not show any interest whatsoever in hunting. We have had him since last august (8 months) and he has been mostly...

Hen hatching two different aged eggs??? Please help!!

Just in case anyone who helped me was interested: We were wrong about the eggs. We started with 12, all fertile. 4 broke, possibly due to a small nest box or the other hens trying to lay in her box. Seven of them hatched yesterday within 12 hours of eachother. There is one egg left, not sure...

Hen hatching two different aged eggs??? Please help!!

Okey dokey. Sounds like I will be doubling my harassing visits to the poor mama to be. Good grief, the look that chicken gives me when I open the door to her box is deadly! I love her though. My son named her Darth Vader and it just cracks me up thinking that Darth Vader is going to be a mommy...
