I don't have Silkies but my mother has a ton of them and from what I've seen it doesn't look normal but hopefully a more experienced person will be along shortly to help.
My house chickens Scratch and Pek. 14 week old cochins.
Pek
Hair by Scratch anyone?
Of course scratch had to go out and get muddy after our storm yesterday.
I am perfectly happy with my cockerels and I haven't expressed otherwise. And I have thanked everyone that has replied to any of my threads, including you, showing plenty of respect. Maybe someone gives me their opinion that has a lot of experience sexing chicks but has never done so with EEs...
Yes it did, being that's the one I mentioned only getting a few opinions. I wasn't aware that I could only ask once or that I couldn't get the opinion of these wonderful people in the EE club. But the point is that I didn't ask you specifically about them so you didnt have to reply.
Yes I've been answered before but it wasn't in a thread specifically for EEs and more then one opinion is always helpful in my eyes. Some may have different opinions and since I had only gotten 2 opinions on my previous post and one before where YOU said nugget and Parmesean both looked like...
Any idea on the gender of these 3? They are around 9 weeks.
Nugget
Parmesean
Popeye
And this is Rosco that im almost certain is a roo and crossed with something.
Sorry some pics are horrible. They wouldn't cooperate and I have nosey cochins. Figured this would be the best place to...
Just because she had a fatty liver doesn't mean she was overweight. Humans can get fatty liver too, even skinny humans. My mother in law just had a friend pass away a few days ago because of a fatty liver. Fatty liver is one of the leading causes in mortality in laying hens because they usually...
Congratulations... Umm I guess lol! I wish I could do the deed but I just rehome my roos. I think it would be great not having to buy chicken at the store when I have a yard full of them but I don't even know how to pluck or process a chicken lol and I especially don't know how to "do the deed".
It sounds like it might be coryza but im no expert. As far as treatment im unsure as I've never dealt with it before. Hopefully someone much wiser on the issue will respond.
Very interesting seeing as how my EE cockerel that is crossed with something barred had a white spot on the top of his head when he was a little chick. He is the only one that I have that looks like this and they all supposedly came from the same hatch.
Sorry to jump on this post out of nowhere but just curious as to why you don't want a barred male? Im new and have never bred chickens. And I have a EE that is obviously crossed with something because he is barred.
Thanks to both of you! I think with the type of big tupperware type container that im using ill just use a glass measuring cup and ill probably cover after the 3-4 days. Yall have been a big help!
Maybe its just pullets the freak out and scream when you catch them... Hmm. Something to think about i guess. It would definitely be easier to sex them that way lol.
I've never done it myself so I did some googling for you. Apparently its really easy.
1. Boil the oyster shells to kill bacteria
2. Afterwards put them in a Ziploc bag and seal it. You want them laying flat in the bag.
3. Then cover with a towel so your not busting holes in the bag
4. Then...
Thank you! Its nice to hear that I should atleast have one pullet out there out of 12 chickens. Sadly she's the hardest to catch and screams if caught. And I do believe your right about Rosco. He looks very interesting right now. Out of all of my cockerels he'll probably ve the one that I keep...
