Purchased from a bin at TSC labelled Easter Egger's and Cinnamon Queens. There were a lot of these along with some that were black with a white dot on their head and then some Cinnamon Queens but only one obvious Easter Egger.
Thank you, she definitely isn't losing weight so I guess things are well enough as they are. I may try feeding her more often just a little less at a time and see if that changes anything.
Oh ok I'm not sure why people on here keep suggesting to limit their feed then if it causes them to gorge themselves. I've never seen anyone suggest leaving it out free choice. I do put out enough that she doesn't eat it all at once. She eats maybe half at once and then the rest within a couple...
I have a BBW hen that is now about 6 months old. I would like to keep her alive as long as I can because she's very sweet. I have read on here that the way to keep them as healthy as possible and not overweight is to limit their feed and ensure they can free range to get plenty of exercise. She...
Thank you for your response! I hope the first scenario is the case. I definitely don't mind if they're not solid black or high quality I just want Jersey Giant pullets and it's extremely hard to find any sexed chicks from a reputable source in my area unfortunately
I would've thought they'd have red leakage around their neck then wouldn't they? Not all down the wings and back? But that's just what I've understood from reading about them on here. I've never personally had any.
Bought these two from TSC and they were supposed to be Jersey Giants but they're not looking like it. Both have brown on their back and wing feathers and one even has a white wing feather. What else could they be?
Updated pics. I'm quite certain it's 2 pullets and a cockerel at this point especially due to the size difference. The cockerel is quite a bit bigger than the other two. I tried to get a decent one with all 3 of them for a size comparison.
Ah ok that's possible. It's always sad when they decline and ultimately die so quickly, giving us very little time to diagnose and possibly prevent their demise. I always feel I should've noticed sooner and done something more to help. Thank you for your response, it makes me feel a bit better...
I noticed yesterday that my almost 2 year old white Wyandotte was laying down more than usual and less active when she was up and about. She was free ranging with everyone else just more slowly. Her poop was also runny and yellowish, and when I checked her crop at the end of the day there was...
Just wanted to update and say they're doing better now. I tried several things I saw on here to try to get them to eat or drink and nothing worked until this morning when I put in some chicks I currently have. They were both walking, eating, and drinking within a few minutes. I'm going to...
Yes our nighttime temps have been in the 60s, I wasn't planning to put them outside at night with no heat source. The person I got them from said she fed them out of feeders not off of the ground so I'd think they would be more familiar with that but I don't currently have a feeder in with them...
If they were with their mother for 3 weeks does that mean they would be acclimated to the daytime temperatures here? Since I'm assuming by 3 weeks they would be walking around with her during the day. It's been in the low 70s to low 80s the past couple weeks here.
They haven't moved an inch...
Is it normal for poults just separated from their mother and put into a new environment to be very still and quiet? I purchased two 3 week olds today and they were quiet on the way home and given to me on a smooth surface that they couldn't stand on. Now that they're home and on shavings they're...
