When can Coturnix quail breed?
I didn't have any light on mine, but they do it all year round. -
japanese quail and hatching
My quail hatched on day 17 and 18. The hatch rate was 14 out of 29 so it was around half hatched. It is sad when you loose one or two of your adorable chicks its so sad. -
What should I do?
My other pen of birds is quail, which is two quail. She was separated for about a month when she was pecked on first. I give them plenty of feed. I give them a mix of 22% and 28% feed. -

She is drinking and eating and I think that she was the same one that got pecked on last time she healed, but it wasn't as bad as this. I have another pen of birds do you think I should put her in with them? -

I have a bird that was beat up by my other birds. Her eyes are swollen shut so she can't see. The top of her head is all torn up and I think I can see the skull. What should I do? -
What percentage of chicks normally make it?
I watered my birds previously in dog bowls. I didn't have a heat lamp in with my adult birds and one got their legs wet and I think froze, it was also in the 20's. I learned that when your birds are young you give them higher protein and then you give them around 22% protein feed if the protein... -
Can you mix Button's with Coturnix quail in the same coop?
I am not sure if your coturnix will be racist to your buttons I've had the problem with my coturnix beating up on my other quail and when I was cleaning out the coop I put them together and it was the other way around. Maybe yours won't have that problem. -
Buttons, My home smells like a chicken coop
I hope the old feed works and I also hope that the smell goes away. I would say it is the humidity and how damp it is for the smell. -

AWESOME!!!!! So adorable I had 14 for my first batch and they are so grownup now laying eggs and in the freezer. -
What happened to my layers ?
I think it was just the cold weather!!! Also I got two more eggs!!! -
Injured Quail - bleeding wing
I had a bird that was also scalped from the others and survived a week and then we butchered him. Also another male had his neck torn open and scalped and is starting to heal I think that this breed of quail is real hardy. If the bleeding has stopped then it will heal and scab over and she... -
How many can fit?
That sounds about right 1 square foot per bird.Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!! -
